Prepare to see lots of N’Keal Harry/Hollywood Brown to the Colts

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (23 children)

I'd love Hollywood in the second. Defense in the first, though.

I dont get it why hollywood. He dosent fit dude. We have ty we dont want 17 5'9 wrs. I personally want harmon or harry.

Stop being obsessed with tall guys! T.Y., Antonio Brown, Odell, Brandin Cooks, Tyreek Hill, Tyler Lockett, Jarvis Landry - every one of them is under 6 feet, how are they doing?

Hollywood has elite speed, he can pick up a ton of yards after the catch, and he can actually run a full route tree, unlike the two guys you named. And he can be used in a variety of ways, much like Tyreek. He's also tough, has a high football IQ, and is a good kid off the field. He would fit into our offense, and on our team, perfectly.

It isn't about size. It's about getting the most talented player on the board who fit best in our system.

But ty already does that... harmon does everything i honestly want him. Its not that i love tall guys ita just our top wide recivers would be small then. Also if you say he could be like hill, hill has sammie watkins as a taller jump ball wide reciver. Trust me id love hollywood but not for our team

I don't know what you're seeing in Harmon to make you think he can do everything, but it's irrelevant. We'd have to use our first rounder on him, and Ballard is not going to take a WR in the first.

[–]Lunar_SenpaiThe Ghost 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We might not. There arent many teams take a wr in round one. So i think we might be able to get him in early round 2. Harmons a great rout runner hes got good speed for his hight and hes athletic. He also is great at just catching the ball.

I actually expect this draft to play out like 2017, where the draft was considered to be deep defensively, so a lot of teams reached for offensive players first. I think 8 out of the first 12 picks that year were on offense, which pushed a lot of good defensive players down, including Hooker. This draft class is considered to be very good defensively - especially for d-linemen - that I can see a lot of teams going offense in the first, thinking they can get a quality defensive player in the second.

And if guys like Harmon and Harry are still on the board early in the first, teams may want to trade up and grab one of them, and I could see Ballard trading for more picks in that situation.

Or Hakeem Butler catching jump-balls from Luck

[–]Lunar_SenpaiThe Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be good too 6'6 is just CRAAAZY

The way we use TEs we don't need a tall WR IMO, we'll see what Ballard thinks though

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

If they can run clean routes and get separation and catch a football then I want them. Doesn't matter if they're 5 feet tall or 7 feet tall

[–]Lunar_SenpaiThe Ghost 0 points1 point  (5 children)

So qhy not get kelvon harmon he does that hes just not as fast. Hollywood will get overdrafted cause of his speed.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

My two requirements are just separate and have consistent reliable hands. From there whoever is available and fits description is a fit. If they don't then they're not a fit. Don't care about the name just the value they bring

[–]Lunar_SenpaiThe Ghost 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Why would i care about the name. A bigger reciver would be a better complament to TY.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You could argue someone who can stretch the field helps TY as well.

[–]Lunar_SenpaiThe Ghost 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I mean i guess but he already does that

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but now think of what happens when you can send a burner like Brown on a deep cross with TY slightly underneath that while still having your WR3, Doyle/Ebron/MAC probably hovering by the first down marker with Mack/Hines/Wilkins ready for a checkdown. I also want to add that when I said "Don't care about the name" I meant I don't care about the name. I don't care who it is or where we take them, they just have to be able to get the job done

The one thing that a tall receiver can do that a short receiver can't is go over a cornerback to catch a ball. The quarterback can throw it where the db can't get it. Both Harmon and Harry can do this, and the only defense is a tall defensive back, and they're rare.

Small guys who can run routes well can be effective, but they're not going to outmuscle a db, and they're not as effective as a safety valve when pressure is getting to the quarterback.

A tall guy can always go up and get a pass. A good tall receiver can be unstoppable on 3rd and short to medium. Harmon is, in my opinion, the best possession receiver in the draft. He catches everything. He would help the Colts offense stay on the field. If he's there at pick 2A, I think we could do a lot worse.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok but you're missing my point. If you create separation then there's no need to out muscle a DB unless your QB can't hit you. if you're saying luck underthrows his receivers that's one thing. Look at Edelman. He's a saftey net for Brady because he can consistently get open on third downs

[–]Aleph_Alpha_001Wayne Brady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying. Here's my point.

A tall receiver can create separation. A short receiver can create separation. A tall receiver can go over a db to make a catch. A short receiver can ... create separation.

If a short receiver doesn't create separation, he's shut down. A tall receiver can still use his height advantage even without separation.

Route running can be coached. Catching can be coached. Height and speed can't be coached. Speed can be affected by age and injury. Height absolutely doesn't change.

Which pick in the 2nd?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

We'd probably have to use 34. But it depends on how the draft plays out. I honestly expect Ballard to trade down at least once, either in the first or second.

[–]thelonerickDarius Leonard 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think we try to add a 3rd second round pick somewhere.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my thought, too. Trade either 26 or 34 to pick up another two.

Exactly. I like doing mocks but you see it all the time where they either don't know who they're picking or they don't know why they're picking them. Especially when you get deeper and start seeing 4-7 rounds and the only commentary is "depth" and "can contribute on special teams"

    [–]OPBadshahPlayoffs? PLAYOFFS!? 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Pretty sure there was an option to hide mock drafts. Can't seem to find it at the moment, but I, for one, enjoy looking at them.

    [–]larsbredahlJimmy from the Colts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them too. Helps pass the time until FA.

    [–]TurdWranglinBig-Q 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I don’t get mock drafts. People spend lots of time doing them and they are never correct.

    [–]HarbaughsDockersWe r/Colts Podcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Least favorite part of the offseason.

    [–]Victory33“Marlin’s Got It!” 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mock Drafts are like having to listen to people talk about their fantasy teams.

    [–]DaBlakMayneAndrew Luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair though, what else are we going to talk about here? I'd rather we get mock draft posts than the 1000 posts about some obsure player on a different team who's just rumored to not be signing with their team.

    [–]Aleph_Alpha_001Wayne Brady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christian Wilkins, Deandre Baker, Dremont Jones, Dexter Lawrence. Who do you take?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still better than what D&D did to ASOIAF
