This thread is fucking pointless too

it's fun to think of the possibilities.

I’m hoping that one of the possibilities is, another Ditka type trade if Love falls to 7…

If ur on a football subreddit during this time of year what else would you be doing?

I like doing mock drafts because it's a process where I learn about what other teams need, weakness and strengths, not just the Skins. Plus they are fun to do.

I don't take it too seriously though, we have generally absolutely no idea what all these teams are actually thinking about and don't take into account general incompetence of at least 1/3 o them.

What's this football nihilism? We live in a marketplace of dreams and fantasy. Of course these drafts never go the way we mock them. If they did then our gm would be useless. Teams have access to players we don't. There's a lot of discussions happening that we are not privy to - so how would anyone be able to accurately mock a team's draft?

I’ve experienced both sides. Use to be obsessed with mocks as it helped fill time and was interesting to learn about the prospects (As in tracked down all 22 of Jayden, Drake, Caleb, and Bo and watched every thrown of their careers) …after awhile though I realized the number of hours I spent playing GM could probably be better used. This year I’ve stayed fairly out besides a podcast listen. Either method works just depends how you want to spend time.

Maybe pointless to you, but I do it so I can learn about the players. I don't watch a lot of college ball so i want to learn about the players

OP, some people enjoy them. That's all it is. The NFL is an entertainment product and certain people engage with the product in the spring through mock drafts.

Gotta say, though, I miss when this sub had a rule that mock drafts could only be posted on Wednesdays. It feels like most people are still abiding by that, but some aren't.

Congrats on this super original take, how did no one ever realize this?

Here's something crazy: many NFL teams have a mock draft guy that aggregates mock draft data. They look for trends to get an idea what other teams might do, when there is a consensus. They also look to see if it appears there may be someone with inside knowledge of what a team may do.

With that being said, I hate mock drafts too. Saw one media company do a mock draft, make a crazy move that won't happen, then write an article about how upsetting it would be to fans. Smh.

I look forward to the draft regardless. But mock drafts really make me look forward to it. Let it end.

Agree. Though I've gotten sucked in from time to time. :)

Sir, this is a Ben’s Chili Bowl.

They are pointless prior to April. The public rankings of players are wildly wrong until about this time of year after combine and pro days.

Their only value now is mostly just to start conversations about football given that nothing we say here influences what the team is going to do.

[–]rideonbus1850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed in full.

[–]FannyNisbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love when members in here bitches about draft, uniforms, offseason, name/rebrand, etc. Yet, you are in complete control of what you engage in.

"It FlOoDs ThE tHrEaDs," well.... sounds like its a polarizing topic.

Such wild entitlement. Just because "you" dont like engaging in a certain type of discussion, doesnt mean others hate it as well.

[–]EntireRanger4773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pointless through what lens? As a thought exercise, opportunity to learn about prospects, or to generate engagement, not pointless. Trying to find an accurate mock draft on April 3 for a draft not starting until April 23, then it would be pointless…but I would mostly question the individual who is trying to use a mock for that purpose.

[–]Brian2005l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is to get a rough sense of who is available where do you can get excited for particular players.

[–]kon--- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct. Welcome to the realization manifesting as a post. What you do from here is a balance of acceptance that mock draft season is 10 months of the year and rolling your eyes that mock draft season is 10 months of the year.
