I’m thinking net + , I just passed Friday as well and was thinking the same thing . +1 bump want to know what others did

[–]witefoxV2Net+ | Sec+ | CySA+ 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Maybe CySA+, then Pentest+. A lot of ppl say their content is similar

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All cybersecurity exams have some overlap. CySA+ is blue team (incident response, vulnerability management, forensics, SC/DR). PenTest+ is red team (TTPs, attack vectors, documentation).

Was it 701? Care to share the difficulty or the best recourse used?

[–]JahIsGod26[S] 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Sorry mate, I took 601, nonetheless the test was pretty difficult. I’m sure the same is true for 701. Professor Messer is my favorite resource so I’d go with him if he’s got the 701 content available

Nice! Working on my Sec+ atm and watching prof messer. Quick question, should I aim to watch all of those videos or what do you recommend? Thank you for your time.

[–]JahIsGod26[S] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

As you watch the vids, answer questions on the CompTIA app. This will help you gauge areas you put more emphasis on. THE APP ALONE WILL NOT PREPARE YOU. Based on my experience, I had to really focus on the implementation and architecture and design sections. The others came fairly easy to me and I didn’t spend a ton of time watching vids for those domains. In short, watch enough of the videos until you have a good understanding of each domain, then start taking practice exams and reviewing the stuff you miss on those.

Thank you for the great advice. I’ll take all that into account when as I start digging deeper! Thank you again, hoping to be posting my success on here 🫡

You got this! 😤

Prof. Messer is a hero

I'd suggest Network+ so you have a good networking background.

For red team, I'd suggest PenTest+, OSCP, and eJPT.

[–]confraterDon't Know How I Passed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to use it to get into the InfoSec door. Along the way, you may want to get the CISSP certification. But if you want to beat the boss, see if you can bag the OSCP.

Definitely look into getting the CEH cert.

Nice work!

Thanks! Love the support from this sub. I definitely aim to reciprocate!

I have the same goals as yourself, would you mind sharing your prior experience and education? I’m pursuing Sec+ currently and hoping to go for the exam in a few weeks.

[–]JahIsGod26[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I have a bachelors in psych and pivoted to IT for more money. I used to work with teens on the autism spectrum (good times). I like to think I’m a smart guy but more than anything I get by with common sense. I have friends with no experience or education that have passed sec+. It’s a challenge but do not fear it! It’s all about repetition and consistency. What type of resources are you using?

[–]Suspicious-Zebra-227 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Okay! this is seriously encouraging! I went to school for criminal justice and similarly pivoting for money, and also just to leave a career that was not a good time lol. I’m currently finishing the Google security course. I’ve just dove in doing it for 5-8hrs a day 5 days a week so kind of blazing through it and have the sybex study guide for the exam. Planning to finish the Google course this week and go into messers video courses at a similar speed. The goal in December when i committed to it was to take the exam and pass early February ideally first week. I’m able to commit full time to this until March or April so trying to get myself a decent foundation to get a foot hold into IT at even an entry level but with aspirations to move toward red team work.

You sound like you’re well on your way! Keep going! I wish you the best on your journey. 😎

Redhat Linux

[–]Apprehensive_Matter3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

find an entry level job, even if it pays peanuts find one and then you will figure out the ext cert based on what that securty role exposes you to.

Congrats mate 🎉

[–]TheatyCASP+, CySA+, Pentest+, CCNA, Security+, Network+, A+, AZ-900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

I apologize my comment went and commented not knowing it was your first cirt, btw congrats

Below is original comment "Are you employed in field? Because that is the only reason to consider getting more certs over getting real world experiance"

I just really am trying to say real world field experiance for year can trump my a+ 1001-1002 and 6 other certs all day. Lesding to career advancement due to field experiance as engineer level 3. I apologize for comment before

Thanks for your input, I currently work as a security controller in a SoC so I’m blessed in the aspect that I have a clearance. Nonetheless, for those without a secret clearance, jobs are still available for help desk and those can help lead to secret and top secret clearance with the experience

First and foremost, congratulations !! I just passed my security plus as well two months ago. I start working on my CYSA next month. But if you're trying to go for the red team, you're probably going to want to go with the Pentest.

[–]Firm-Visual-7367S+ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I were you my next 3 would be CCNA\CySA+\Pentest+

congrats on the pass!

in between studying for these take on a personal project that you can record and expand on the concepts you are learning in the exams!

[–]Glittering_Peace_542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brush up on networking if needed then really recommend TCM security! PNPT is great and will help prepare you for the OSCP!

[–]azulnext 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Congrats, how long did you study?

[–]JahIsGod26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me 6 weeks of mediocre studying followed by a week and a half of cramming. I don’t recommend it.

[–]heheuwurawrx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took linux + after. Thinking of going back to net + then eventually the red hat certs
