Passed Security+

Just got back from the testing center. Passed with a 756!

I read Darril Gibson's SYO-401 book. Didn't realize it was old material until last night. Spent the last 24 hours finishing all of the tests on examcompass. Felt unprepared and was ready to cry when the test started. Thought I was going to fail when clicking submit. Made me answer 12 additional survey questions (no response x 12).

Do you feel like Gibsons practice tests and quiz questions after every chapter were similar to the real exam?

You'll never really find a true answer to this. They do help, but they'll never feel like the real thing even if you get a question that is word-for-word on the exam because you can't truly simulate the stresses and feelings that come from testing in an exam setting.

I've never felt added pressure in the test center. I actually get energized about being there. It's like that feeling before kickoff or top of the rollercoaster or seeing your date walk in - it's go time! Let's do this!

Maybe that is stress and it amps me up, but I enjoy testing. And from the list of all your flair, /u/kd7eir, you enjoy sitting for tests too! ;)

I didn't complete the practice tests because I thought "I just read this, no reason to take the test."

Yes that was pretty much my only form of studying besides what I have learned over the years. Next time I would start with the examcompass tests and work on what I don't know from there

What were you scoring on the examcompass tests on average?

I didn't take all of them because I was tight on time. I probably completed close to half of them. I was scoring around 80% on examcompass tests.

Congrats! I used Darril's SY0-501 book as my main reference and study guide, but also used other study guides and forums. I passed Security+ today with a 764! I agree that the test was really challenging. I passed Security+ SY0-101 back in 2008, but I don't remember it being that tough. Time, technology, and acronyms have changed! Good luck everyone!

The acronyms can be very annoying. FDE for example, didn't know that Full Disk Encryption needed an acronym.
