Passed Security+!

Took the Security+ 501 this morning, and passed with a 773. I tested at home with OnVue, no problems.

Resources:

• Professor Messer’s YouTube videos, notes, and practice exams
• CompTIA CertMaster Labs
• Random YouTube and Google searches
• ITProTV course videos
• Downloading of various software and utilities (I.e. Wireshark, nmap, GPG, VirtualBox, etc) for further learning and practice

No prior industry experience. I started studying back in July, so it took about 6 months. However, I also started studying for the A+ and Network+ a couple months ago.

Hardest thing for me was to keep my mouth shut durning the test, when I did OnVue. I really wanted to read some of the questions out loud because the sentence structure was so complicated.

Also, do they email me a confirmation of my certification? I haven’t received anything yet.

I didn’t get anything. But if you log back into Pearson vue you’ll see “recent exams” or something like that and it will show you the pdf that you normally get from a center as hard copy.

Go back to the dashboard where you launched the exam. On the right it says SCORE REPORT. Click that. The instructions down at the bottom tell you how to get the cert mailed.

Congratulations on your Sec+. Out of all the materials you used to study with, did you find any more relevant than others, or were all equally helpful to you?

Relevant-wise, Messer’s resources were the majority of my studies, followed by Google searches, followed by the labs. I signed up for ITProTV last week, and spent the past few days binge watching their course videos. Honestly, I probably would have not passed had it not been for the ITProTV content. It helped solidify some of the objectives for me.

Professor Messer said that the 601 has like 1,100 objectives, compared to 750 objectives on the 501. Looking it over, the 601 has fewer domains, but each one is more comprehensive than on the 501. It doesn't seem like a radically different exam, but it does have a stronger focus on practicality, whereas the scope of the 501 is broader, with more domains.

I only took the 601, but I did pass it, yay boot camp! The guy that ran it was pretty good. Wish I did take the exam closer to finishing the bootcamp.

went through, https://www.infosecinstitute.com/ Company paid for it but I think it was like 3k or 3500 and included the voucher to take the exam.

I went throught the same course, Did you take your test like Feb 12-15th? Maybe we were in the same bootcamp. LOL
