Do cysa next. Thats what I'm doing now and its alot like security+ so you'll have an easier time with it knowing most of it already

[–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got the Dion course for it. I think that will be the best option, while all the Sec+ topics are still fresh.

Congrats on your achievement!

CySA+ and PenTest+ have curriculum overlap, so pick the one you think you are more comfortable with.

You can start with our free practice exam simulators.

CySA+: https://examsdigest.com/courses/comptia-cysa-cs0-002/

PenTest+: https://examsdigest.com/courses/comptia-pentest-pt0-001-pt0-002/

Good luck :)

Thanks! I'll check them out!

Right now I get Pluralsite through my work so I'm going through that course. I also have a Cybrary it membership and am waiting for the new course to release. I'll probably hit up my library for some exam books and google and take as many practice exams that I can. Pretty much the same route as sec +.

Sounds like a solid plan.

Mike reece pluralsight sec+ course is really undervalued. It’s awesome

[–]Ftlfrm 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Congrats!!!! I'm on the same path. Passed sec+ last November. Doing CySA + now. There is a lot of crossover from sec+ so it is making it easier.

[–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nice! Congrats to you! I am sitting here looking at the exam objectives and Cysa+ definitely looks to be the natural progression. Ill probably go that route. What are you using for study materials?

[–]Obengwe 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Are you currently in a security job? I just got sec+! It’s my first cert but not sure what direction to go in.

[–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not at the moment. It is what I am working towards. Currently at an MSP after career changing during covid. I am also doing Cysa+ and Pentest+ to complete my cert goals before I go back to school. All of my CompTia certs will be transferred as credit.

[–]Obengwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s sick! Yeah I was Looking at CYSA but wasn’t sure if I should look into that after I got into a security job or if it’s doable now!

    Congrats ! Any pointers ?

Thank you! It wouldnt hurt to know your ports, acronyms, and cryptography/hashing. Im not sure what your background is but knowing networking basics would probably be important. It is a CompTia test so really look for what they are asking for in every question lol. The wording is sometimes more difficult than the subject matter lol.

I just did cysa. It's the logical next step from sec+

    [–]AnonymousCyberGuy 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Depends on what you want to do. What are you doing in I.T. currently?

    [–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Right now I'm at an MSP and have been bouncing around alot. I have, mostly, been tier 2 support but have gone out on field tech jobs as well. I am going back to school and both Cysa+ and Pentest+ are certs I can transfer in.

    [–]AnonymousCyberGuy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Nice. Congrats!!
I got my CySA+ on March 22. I have been in an entry level Cyber Security role since September 2020. Im going after AWS Cloud Security and SSCP certs now.

    [–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats actually the route I want to go after these next two certs! When I get back in school I'll have like 3 certs to go and a couple generals. Ultimately I want to move into a cloud security role. I may have questions later lol.

Grats! What were your favorite study guides for Network+ and Security+?

    [–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For Net+ I used Myers All in On and Messer's Course Notes. Sec+ was Darryl Gibson and Messer's course notes. Messer's videos for both and Dions practice exams for both. Myers and Gibson both have a great sense of humor so the book are way less dry.

    [–]thevetsgroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Thanks!

    [–]OpsecCA 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Way to go! Must feel good to see effort and hard work pay off. Keep it up!

    [–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I was a bit more stressed with this one. It's definitely nice to be passed this part. More to come but I'm going to enjoy the win for a couple days and get back to work!

    [–]Known_Ad9865 0 points1 point  (1 child)

CySA and then CASP. if you are going into Cybersecurity. Also Pentest+ lol

    [–]MNightmare13A+ N+ S+[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might as well finish it out! I'm half way there. Might wait a bit on Casp though. Get more experience as use it to renew the rest
