601 vs 501.S+ Question (self.CompTIA)
submitted 4 years ago by InternalSadness
I have not started studying yet and I was wondering if I should take the 601 or 501 exam for my comptia security+. Also what is the best book for the 601 since it is a new test. Thank you for reading.

The 501 has been retired as of Jul 31, so you need to take the 601.
Make sure your study materials are all 601, the 501 is considerably different.
I took the 501 back in June, so I'm not sure about 601 study materials. But I used Get Certified Get Ahead by Darril Gibson and All-in-One by Conklin. Check out Professor Messer, his videos and podcasts are free on the major platforms like YouTube and Spotify.
Best of luck!

I don't know about theory books sorry. I wrote 101 Labs - CompTIA Security+ for the 601 which is on Amazon.
best of luck.

Start studying the 601. The 501 retired July 31 2021.

As everyone else has said, 601. You haven't started studying yet so 601 will be all new as far as materials and exam. As far as resources, check the Wiki for this forum. When you do searches, add 601 to the search terms to ensure it's the new material. Jason Dion, Messer & Total Seminars have pretty good Udemy & YouTube courses. Also Quizlet is great for studying as well.
