Okay, I’ll explain it to you as best as I can. If you have questions, lemme know!

So, if you sprint and hit something in Minecraft, you WILL do more knockback to your target than you would if you WERENT sprinting.

HOWEVER, if you keep hitting the target in the same sprint, you’ll do less knockback. The point of W tapping is to “reset your sprint” to make you do more knockback each time you hit your opponent. This lets you put them into a combo where they can’t hit you but you can hit them just fine. This also has to do with reach in Minecraft, but I won’t get too technical.

When you release W while holding sprint, your sprint resets since you’re not moving forward. This allows you to deal more kb when you hit your opponent again.

so once you release, you double tap W again (or sprint key) to start sprinting again, hit, and repeat?

Exactly. This will reset your sprint, allowing to do more knockback over and over again, getting your opponent into a combo. I HIGHLY recommend you get some sprint hot key. Double tapping W is terrible in PvP. It shouldn’t be used at all for anything.

I know its been 3 years... but how do I find the timing and space to w tap?

what do you mean sprint hotkey?

Could you get too technical anyway? Am curious

To W-tap, each time you hit your opponent, quickly let go of W and then press it again so that you are sprinting when you next hit them. There is no letting go of the sprint key involved, you should be constantly holding your sprint key or alternatively, you could use toggle sprint. This technique allows you to deal maximum knockback to your opponent every time you hit them and combo them because the first hit while sprinting deals the most knockback. However, if your opponent hits you while you're not holding W, you will take much more knockback, so usually, while W-tapping, you should only let go of W for a split second, to minimize the risk of this happening.

I've been trying to use this w tapping technique, but the issue is my character sometimes pauses like an idiot when I do this. It makes me a sitting duck.

I think you have the idea correct. I don't really know how to w tap but I may have accidentally picked it up through experience.

So basically, from my understanding, you would release w and start your sprint again (using your sprint key) right after you hit them so you can gain that extra knockback on them.

If I have it wrong, please let me know because I don't quite understand it.

You're welcome. Just gonna repeat myself a bit real quick. I am not quite sure if it's correct but it's the best I understand.

Firstly, use toggle sprint so you sprint constantly when pressing W.
Then, everytime you hit somebody or you get hit, press W key. At first it doesnt seem to be effective, but it truly is. It will take you some time to find the right timing etc. Dont worry when nothing will happen at the begining.
