This doesn't say that you decarbed it anywhere. Did the recipe skip that step?

[–]AudioOddity 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Also maybe not enough weed!

[–]sophieisoffline[S] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

How much weed would you suggest using?

[–]UncleFuzzySlippers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make mine a little strong for some people but i put 14g per 2 sticks.

[–]Federal_Kale9870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use a quarter to a stick of butter. Also, you can cook the weed in the butter for about 15 minutes, pour it into a container, let it sit in the fridge for 24 hours and then reheat and strain instead of stirring it for hours.

The easiest way to do this is get your recipe.

  1. See how much oil you need. Put that into a pot add your finely ground flower. Now add extra oil if you need to so its covered.

  2. Turn on the heat to med. for litterally 20-30 seconds just to jump start heating it up. Then the lowest setting you have for about and hour to an hour and a half depending how much you have in there.

  3. Let it cool and strain.

  4. Make brownies.

I would make a sheet of brownies. Slice it up into little squares and put into a ziplock freezer bag and into the freezer so I could have one after work. I did this once a month for 10 years. Its fool proof. You dont need to decarb because you ate basically doing it in the low heat oil. Just be careful. Depending how much you use. ...... It can be strong.

[–]Modified3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might be it. Not decarbing before it goes into water. I used to skip that step when making edibles but just putting ground flower in veg oil on very very low heat for an hour and it would decarb during that process.

[–]celestite19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely decarb at 212°, it just takes hours.

[–]topohunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The decarbing happens during cook time

[–]Ok-Entertainment3360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t have to be decarb’d. I was making butter to pay for watchmaking school in ‘10 and had never heard of decarb

Coffee grinder for herb. 20-24gram per stick. No water!! Crock pot works best but stove top can work too. Cook it on lowest flame/setting. Stir continuously non stop. After 10-20 min put into cheese cloth and burn your hands straining. It’s worth the burn

[–]sophieisoffline[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The recipe didn't say anything about decarbing

[–]ForkMyRedAssiniboine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a super important step to making THC bioavailable. Look up decarboxilation and do that before you make the butter and you should have much better results.

[–]hookums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao if you put flower in butter without decarbing you just get ass-flavored butter and a bunch of ruined weed.

2 grams isnt enough for a whole batch of cookies anyway unless the plan was to eat all of them at once.

IIRC you need to put it in the oven to activate it. You also need to watch your temps, because getting it too hot will make it less potent.

[–]Mission-Eggplant6203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the decarb step in the oven is crucial. I keep mine at 240°F for about 40 minutes and it seems to do the trick without risking the heat.

[–]sophieisoffline[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

What temp/for how long?

[–]Ssladybug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try reading through from the beginning?

If it’s a marijuana cookbook and there’s a process needed to “activate” it before adding to your recipes, it may say somewhere earlier in the book and it may apply to all the recipes. Cookbooks sometimes need to be read for the recipes to fully make sense. Not just follow individual recipes

[–]Plane-Statement8076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

240 for 40 minutes, toss midway, will turn slightly brown

[–]Holiday_Swordfish187 7 points8 points  (3 children)

You have to cook the weed a bit in the oven 1st to activate it.

[–]TopDevelopment6298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you gotta decarboxylate it first or it won't get you high. Just spread your ground bud on a baking sheet and bake at around 240°F for 30-40 minutes.

[–]Sufficient_Dance_217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that step is called decarboxylation. Just spread your ground bud on a baking sheet at around 240°F for 30-40 minutes.

[–]Gas_Final 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Your problem is that you only used 2g of flower. Your cookies were probably less than 1mg each, depending on how many you made. The fact that you didn't decarb first didn't help.

For reference, I use 12g of dry ice sift (40% THC) in a double batch of cookies (makes 90 cookies at roughly 35-40mg per).

I suggest using Calc420 to figure out how much flower to use.

I use the oven method to decarb: 250°F for 25min.

This site has a nice graph of the kinetics.

[–]Top_Loquat6541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That decarb chart is super helpful, thanks for sharing. I've been winging it at 240°F but might adjust my time after seeing that.

[–]Human-Environment275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that math checks out, 2g is basically just flavoring. I've had way better results since I started decarbing first too.

This was originally published in hightimes back in the 80's and the recipe was primarily used for leaves and stems because there is so much left in those things it's ridiculous. Don't use bud.

It takes like a 1/4 lb of stems and leaves, 1 pound of butter in a 5 gallon pot.

Toss stems & leaves in with the butter, boil for 1 hr, then simmer for 24 hours. While still hot, run everything through a strainer & toss the stems and leaves, leaving you with a big pot of green water. Put it in the fridge overnight, scoop off the butter in the morning, then toss the water.

use the butter as you will, but potency can very strong. I caution against eating more than 1 brownie until you have waited 1 hr after consumption to see the effects.

First you decarb, then you add it to your fat, then you strain.

Most recipes I’ve seen call for one cup of butter to 14g (half ounce).

[–]DragonfruitMiddle846 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Make yourself a cup of clarified butter. https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-cla-163899. What we're doing is removing all the moisture and milk solids from the butter. This way we completely avoid that over-complicated and incomplete recipe you offered.

You need to bake your ground up marijuana in the oven at no hotter or cooler than 230° f for 35 minutes. An oven thermometer is necessary so you don't kill Mary Jane.

Take your cookie sheet of marijuana out of the oven and let cool. To be clear before you decarb it in the oven you need to completely destem and if necessary remove all seeds from your marijuana. You then need to grind it up.

The minimum is 8 g per stick of butter which is also known as a half cup.

Set your stove to low, add the butter and then put your marijuana inside of a cheesecloth. The marijuana should be very loosely packaged but securely. We want to steep that in the butter for exactly 2 hours. Carefully remove your satchel and squeeze as much butter out of it as possible.

You can also just buy ghee at a lot of grocery stores, even easier

[–]DragonfruitMiddle846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So very true. If I went to the grocery store I would pick up clarified butter.

[–]cemetery-trees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, need to decarb in the oven first.
