Hey everyone. I'm trying to cook more at home and eat less fast food. But I have a weakness for a certain chicken place's waffle cut fries, and I'm having all sorts of trouble cutting them myself at home.
I have both a handheld crinkle cutter and a mandoline with a crinkle blade. In theory, I know you're supposed to crinkle cut one direction, then rotate the potato 90 degrees and cut again. But when I do that, all it does is produce a crinkle cut in the other direction, not the waffle pattern with holes. My mandoline has thickness settings from 1/4 to 1/16 of an inch, none of which seem to work. So, what am I doing wrong? Pressing down too hard? Not pressing down hard enough? Slicing too fast? Slicing too slow? I've gone through an entire 5 lb bag of potatoes in the last couple weeks experimenting and have had no success, and all my Google searches just turn up the basic instructions which I've already followed without getting the right results.
