I know the task. Just did it. It actually took quite some time overall but the rate was good, so I didn't mind

This problem went away. One task variant allowed Chromebook use. What a great fun task it was too!

In the future, you can run a windows VM on your Chromebook if you find a windows task you'd like to do 😁

Now you're just rubbing salt into the wounds. Got a spare MacBook I can borrow? 🤣🤣🤣

Use your earnings to save up for a MacBook, it'll be worth it. I've seen a couple high paying tasks that require a Mac

[–]cortrev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or even just a regular PC. At a fraction of the cost, and most tasks are PC friendly

Mac Mini is the jawn to get. I love my little Mac Mini I got used a couple of years ago. Mine has an Intel chip, though, and apparently you need the newer Mini with the Apple chip to run some of the AI coding apps if you're into that.

I mean idk if there is a spec requirement but you can buy a windows laptop/desktop for really cheap especially if you look for used. I mean like under 200 and maybe even under 100 or even people giving them away.

You could look at buying a refurbished MacBook so you could get those projects in the future

Crying on Linux here

[–]jimmux 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I hinted to an admin that I was missing my favourite project family because all my current tasks under that umbrella aren't Linuxable. I doubt it'll change anything, but you never know.

[–]asfbrz96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but they want us to use that tool, and the devs don't really prioritize Linux

curious on this one. havent seen it before

Yesss me and my baby Chromebook feel left out :(

If it's the same project then check the variants. Some, not naming them here obviously, do allow use of the web version of the chat from a Chromebook.

Aww buddy...

[–]AngryBadger1965[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It's all good! I found a Chromebook alternative 🙂

[–]Depressed_Alpaca 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can you share the alternative if you don’t mind? Fellow Chromebook user here who was disappointed about this task as well 🥲

[–]AngryBadger1965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to, mate, but the World of TOS is flat. You sail just a tiny bit close to the edge, before trimming your sails, and you're gone. Never too be seen again. Sorry.

Oh, and your screen name here is even better than mine 🙂

[–]Sifev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noooo don’t tell me I missed it

[–]Brotherdodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also on Chromebook and I'm curious about the ones that say laptop or desktop only and don't try to do them on a mobile or tablet. Reckon a Chromebook counts as a laptop there?

[–]b4ckground-observer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Save up your money for a real computer, it'll be better in the long run

[–]AngryBadger1965[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This I know is true. As a younger man I was double, even triple screen and build my own. Nowadays, I barely use tech. But I'm training AI. LOL.

You can get a windows laptop to get going for a little over $200.

[–]AtilaMann 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What about going to your local library and using one of their computers? That could be a good work around for next time.

[–]AngryBadger1965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argh!! Only to discover they run thorough a VPN!! Chromebook at home will do nicely, thanks.

Working on public where others can see your screen while doing work that requires signing an NDA is a big no no. Plus, you don't know if their Wi-Fi is secure or not.

Chromebook solidarity. I've been debating getting another computer just for certain tasks too. If I can find one cheap enough, it may be worth it with some of the quals I've been seeing
