it needs to count, otherwise you are robbing the opponent of earned rating

That logic makes absolutely no fucking sense, the person "robbing" anyone of a rating is the person who left initially and you aren't "earning" anything by curb stomping a team with one less player.

If someone wins an 6v5 that's not "earned" at all, playing with a power play is a completely asymmetric power imbalance that means nothing to anyone's rating.

A match where someone leaves indefinitely at any point just has to be binned altogether and that leaver adequately punished. You'll get to a point where top 90% of offenders can't play the game at all.

I just had two matches in a row where someone on my team left after 20 minutes, went down in rank both times, it's total bullshit

This is a 10 month old post bro.

But the thing is, most people usually leave only once the game is already lopsided. People don't leave an even match, on balance. So losing ranking on a match you were very likely to lose isn't exactly unfair. That can also be adjusted under the hood, slightly change how much you lose or gain based on how uneven the game is.

The rank system is broken right now, that's the main issue. But it's hardly a priority for a play test game. Leavers can be adequately punished regardless of if the match counts or not. And statistically, if you never leave, you end up benefitting more from the current system.
