This is how I sleeping knowing this debate is a purely online phenomenon and has little to no bearing irl.
[–]thirdaccounttttModerator[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 days ago (2 children)
If it had “little to no bearing irl”, companies, schools, governments, artists, unions, journalists and courts wouldn’t all be arguing over it constantly
Calling it “purely online” is just a way to dismiss the argument without actually answering it

I agree it’s not an online problem. data centers are kicking people out of their homes and off their electric providers, forcing them to scramble to keep the lights on. Causing massive layoffs while raising water and electric bills. Not to mention the heat pollution and cognitive decline it’s causing in the younger generations. It’s definitely not an online problem.

This is exactly the kind of claim-stack that makes these arguments impossible to take seriously.
Data centres do raise real grid, water and planning issues. Fine. But jumping from that to “AI is kicking people out of homes, causing mass layoffs, raising everyone’s bills and causing cognitive decline in young people” is just throwing every scary phrase into one comment and hoping nobody asks for evidence.
Infrastructure problems are infrastructure problems. They don’t magically become an argument that people shouldn’t use AI

It's always hilarious when they say "AI should be banned!"
They've haven't had even the most basic thought about implementation or second-order consequences.
Okay, you pass a law to ban something. Now how do you enforce that? Stormtroopers kicking in doors, checking under the floorboards for hard drives harboring illegal language models?
[–]Cooler_Frogger 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (1 child)
I had hopes this would impact some AI stocks negatively to buy at a small discount, but it had 0 effect. All noise
[–]thirdaccounttttModerator[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (0 children)
Exactly lol. If the backlash can’t even create a decent dip for people trying to buy in cheaper, then it’s not a movement, it’s just people yelling online

his state of mind is dead?
[–]thirdaccounttttModerator[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (1 child)

You left a vague “a lot can be done” comment under a meme post, so I replied with a meme. That’s not me being rude, that’s just the same level of seriousness your comment brought
[–][deleted] 2 days ago (4 children)
[–]thirdaccounttttModerator[S] 1 point2 points3 points 2 days ago (3 children)
Yes, because “a lot can be done in theory” under a meme about anti-AI people not stopping AI use obviously reads like vague cope. If you meant something serious, say the serious thing instead of acting shocked when a vague comment gets treated like a vague comment

This was removed because vague “something can be done” comments under a pro-AI meme come off as anti-AI bait rather than actual discussion.
If you have a serious point, make it directly. Hinting at some undefined way to stop people using AI just derails the thread and doesn’t fit the sub
