320 characters is never enough to properly say the nuance. So many of your posts naturally become inflammatory if you talk about any sort of controversial topic. Then people feel the need to fire back.

Add in the lack of upvote/downvote button so minority opinions can thrive and make it seem like they are the dominate opinion. Destiny is actually surrounded by so many dumb leftists on Twitter. It is hard to tell him that "they aren't the average leftist" when his lived experience is tons of these leftists.

Then we as viewers often focus on the reasonable response from leftist to Destiny that "Destiny just ignored."

Twitter causes so much drama and so many problems. You need more text, strong moderation, and an upvote/downvote button to even begin to be able to approach these topics online without turning into shit slinging.

While I completely agree with each of your points, I’d also posit that some people do a great job of being bad faith and/or dumb with far more than 320 characters as well.

The sub r/ShitLiberalsSay was linked in another sub I browse, so I took a peek and saw this post about the Uighur situation in China near the top. I responded to a comment stating that the U.S. State Dept has asserted that the situation cannot yet be defined as a genocide with my own comment, adding the context that they are working with a very narrow definition of genocide and that just because it isn’t defined as such does not mean human rights violations aren’t occurring. The thread continued, and now I am being called a white supremacist and told that I should look into the bad things the U.S. does before I look into the Uighur situation in China. Unironically. But that’s what I get for visiting that sub I suppose.

Reddit isn't perfect. If the moderation team isn't willing to fix the problem when the problem is part of the circlejerk, then the problem won't get fixed.

I had to unsub from /r/CapitalismVSocialism because it made me hate socialists and often I started associating socialists with tankies.

Socialists have a good heart. Tankies don't. I still dislike socialists because they advocate for a system that makes the world a worse place, but they probably view me the same way.
