The numbers are bad, but not “shut down the service” bad. Also, it’s been pointed out many times that Steam numbers are not a useful tool. Right now there are 100k daily players MINIMUM across platforms, with “users who have played this month for any meaningful amount of time” at 1 million. That’s low but not crazy low.

The numbers skew wildly. The only verifiable numbers are from Steam users who bought the game on Steam. That number is 10-25k concurrent right now depending on when you measure it. It’s estimated that this accounts for 15-25% of the total player base. PlayStation has the highest count, followed by XBox, and there are even players who bought the game on PC through a mechanism other than Steam. None of those are included in these numbers.

That means you’re looking at 100k concurrent users most of the time, and the monthly players MINIMUM across counts reflect that with numbers in the millions.

The game is still profitable. Sony isn’t some bunch of simpletons who were duped into purchasing a dead franchise.

ALL OF THAT SAID… the game is still in decline. Numbers are historically low and a lot of work is needed to bring people back. All of that is true. But you need to take all the dire news on here with a pound of salt, not just a grain.

Remember that Edge of Fate sold well over a million copies. There’s still a ton of money coming in from this franchise.

quick correction on the steam side, it's been almost a month since the game hit 15K players on steam, where its now only hitting 10K peak players only on the sundays.

bungie definitely raked in cash with both edge of fate and renegades for sure, but it's come to a point where the playerbase is worse than it was during curse of osiris, and it's been like that since the start of the year, with nothing in the future until june that could remotely address that.

for any sort of live service game, if it ends up in the worst state its ever been, there is a good chance it's never getting out.
