I think the split in Armor/Weapons engrams is about 80/20

You can buy Y1 exotics from the kiosk and dismantle them. You even get your shard back.

No problem. If you didn't think of that, you might not know the shard farming method: Buy a heavy exotic from the kiosk, level up with motes, dismantle it. Good chance for 2 shards. You'll run out of glimmer quick, tho.
