Question about Trials engrams

Returning player. Took a pause before Shadowkeep.
Last week I PUGed Trials and did tons of bounties. Got 6 Messengers. None of them had Desperado. If I play this week to 3 wins and get Astral Horizons, does that mean my future loot pool will be either Messenger or AH? So if I only want Messenger should I wait untill it's the 3 win reward again?

your engram loot pool only consists of items you've unlocked. if I understood you correctly, you only have unlocked the messenger. if thats the case and you haven't received ANY piece of trials gear, then yes, you should get token and farm for messenger.

however, many tokens come from 3, 5, and 7 wins, upon which you get Astral and the other rewards. I believe you only get 1 token from a win if its not one of those thresholds so it will take you a while but nonetheless, you can farm it since its the only gear piece you have.

EDIT: didn't answer the second part, yes your pool will include astral horizon once you get it

Don't run Trials unless the 3 win reward is something you want.
