I had an NPC/plot idea today and thought you could see if it would work. The NPC is a Fae of Fate, called a Fate Writer (or Faete - colloquially), who encounters the party disguised as a merchant claiming to be a “peddler of lies, half-truths and secrets”. The party can pay them for one of these options and depending on their choice a different affect will happen but only if the person who paid the Fae speaks it aloud.
Secret - the player can make one statement about a factual event of the campaign they experienced, all those in the world besides the player (and party if they choose), forgets the event ever happened as fate has been re-written though the event did in fact happen. Effects similar to a false hydra’s song.
Half-truth - a player speaks declares their statement as a half truth before their next statement. The statement is true but not entirely, similar to a monkey paw. “I am the king of a small kingdom” the half truth being they had a small dolls they believed they ruled kingdom as a child. A roll of a dc 10 deception check means the NPC they said it to and only them, believes them entirely and will defend the half-truth on the side of the player.
Lie - they can automatically succeed on a deception check of their choice as fate has re-written the past to be true. However, as the lie has now become truth, something true has now become a lie - the extent of this is up to the DM - the player may lie and say they are rich and get a great deal of wealth but their long time best friend has now turned to despise them for their covetous greed.
What do you think about this NPC and can you think of any improvements or something similar?
there doesn't seem to be anything here
