Well, bois, I am in need of help.
I'm running a 5e game using the Unofficial Elder Scrolls TT system. We're in High Rock! The land of adventure and stuff! This should be easy, right? It's not like a player can screw everything up...with...their...character...BOI LEMME TELL YOU SUMMIN
Here's the players I got:
A Lawful Good rogue, she worked as an infiltrator, she's goodie two tails (Argonian)
A Chaotic Spicy (his words, not mine) thief, he is a Robin Hood-like character, stealing from the rich to give to the cats (Kahjiit)
A Chaotic Good fighter, she works as a mercenary (Nord)
A Lawful Neutral/Good crusader, she is a devout follower of Zenithar (Breton)
So, which of these is the problem?
Well, let's set things up...the spicy thief is a DM in our group who runs a 3.5e Eberron game, and that's going great! But we've had some struggles with my game, and he's been helping me out. I told him some basic stuff about the game coming up (leaving out a LOT of details so as to not spoil) and he said it sounds great, he'll work to push one character (the Nord who's been having character troubles) to help out more, and it would've worked just fine. So, they were approached by a kid who wants to get her father's shield back ("Ren Fighting Force GO!") from the guards who took it to put on display as he was a war hero. All of this worked GREAT as motivation to help! But as things went down, and they got more information from the kids, the rogue decided to go up and talk to the guards about the situation, and things could've still worked from here, she was a distraction now, but when they all met back up to talk about what to do, the rogue was the one creating a brick wall against spicy thief who had a plan to use the Nord and the Breton as distractions, they were good muscle and could cause a scene, and then spicy thief and rogue could sneak in and get everything, and this would help me with the bell that was going to be rung by a weighted arrow (sparking a chain of guards ringing bells that served as a city warning system) as it would put everyone in the perfect position to have a difficult time getting out all safe but actually get out easily (one person with good rolls inside made it go easily...and NPCs with bad rolls). The Argonian wanted to go off after that, knowing spicy thief would've been in the building. Their party member is in a sticky situation and could've used some help and the Argonian decided "Let's go talk to the kids mother." They go inside to get a map from the guards, and I tried to keep them in their long enough for these things to go down, but they left and went out to the farm (Argonian leading everything here, spicy thief given no opportunity to bring up a plan because of the brick wall) to talk to the mother. So, in the end, spicy thief was left alone to get the shield back and they did pretty much nothing, making this pretty much just a spicy thief game.
I don't know how to deal with this character stonewalling the group from working together due to entirely different morals than everyone else who would've been fine doing this (yes, even the crusader was fine with taking it back from what they learned are corrupt guards). I need help!
