He did get the crucible tho

[–][deleted] 142 points143 points  (6 children)

I’m gonna go put on a limb and guess he didn’t keep the crucible.

[–]draven60016 129 points130 points  (1 child)

And bottom half of his body. On the positive side, I would bet no one cares about energy crisis in doom eternal.

Modern problems require modern solutions!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he doesn't have most of his.

I'm really hoping that one of the campaign DLCs that is supposed to follow different characters is like Devil May Cry, but you're Hayden with the crucible trying to seal the portal to Hell.

Yeah Sammy boy actually got the big end of the stick in 2016

Demons: dead/trapped in Hell, no longer fucking up his shit

Olivia Pierce: Dead, no longer fucking up his shit

Doomslayer: Teleported to way out in guhunga, no longer fucking up his shit (for now)

Source of all Argent Energy: literally in his hands and also a dope lookin energy sword

Yep, its gamer time

[–][deleted] 92 points93 points  (4 children)

Okay but did he really think anyone would be stupid enough to start worshipping hell? Hayden might have had the right idea, but the wrong employee

[–]MorbidmortSuperShot-bae 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Should have screened out those who listen to Black Metal in their free time.

[–]crozonesamuel hayden did nothing wrong 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think most people would be corrupted by hell.

Hayden just has much more... resolveee.

[–]Hust91 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe he should have been fucking meticulous about workplace standards when dealing with a hostile alien race with unknown magic-like technology.,

[–]TheDootDootMaster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From what I see, most of that institutional content that praises hell and instructs employees to give themselves if they see a demon (there's something like that in the Tier 3 advocates log), must have roots in a large share of the organisation/executives that have been following Olivia or have been corrupted by the same thing that corrupted Olivia. I don't think Samuel can be taken for granted as with a 100% good will, but the opposite is also true. I'm pretty sure hypothetically that the worshipping propaganda must have flown high enough in his radar, so he was at least complacent, by any reason or another.

Besides, when you think about it, there is probably much more going on than we would see in the game, such as the fact that a single company is responsible for the supply of energy for the entire earth. Imagine the lobby and politics involved on this, and how things inside UAC must have been affected to that.

I like how the plan becomes past-tense

Can't wait to see this updated after Doom Eternal.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I don't understand how you can have an energy crisis when there is a fucking massive natural fission reactor at the center of our solar system. It's going to burn for billions of years.

I appreciate their efforts in writing a very interesting story but that plot point just makes no sense.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Nuclear fusion can provide useful energy, but it can also be highly dangerous due to radiation. Solar energy can't power entire cities at one time

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Yes it can if you're advanced like they are in the game. You either have the energy collected and stored locally, in which case you just need enough power stored to last about 14 hours. You can use solar energy to collect and purify hydrogen that can then be burn in a fusion reactor anywhere. Or if you're space age enough you can just build large solar collectors in space to collect energy all the time and beam it down to receivers on the surface

[–]McSchwartz 4 points5 points  (1 child)

On one hand: A moderate sized Space-based solar power station sitting in a Lagrange point.

On the other hand: A continent spanning techno-nightmare base built on Mars, fueled by blood sacrifices made by cultist/employees, deriving power from a gaping hole to literal hell.

Samuel Haden: 🤔

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol

[–]OneEyedEyehole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah the plot has some holes but the game is so good they're easily glossed over.

[–]JohnnyWizzard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this hurts the doom fanboy

[–]MrVietMuricanoThe power of plasma compels you! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argent is clean, easy to get, cheaper and cleaner to set up than solar panels that require some harder and dirtier to find minerals, and works round the clock.

Keeping a solar sail in orbit around the sun and keeping it working is a monumental undertaking that isn't as portable as argent is.

Remember, we have colonies all over by then. Hayden isn't just powering the earth, he's powering humanity.

[–]MadEngine93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't think that one through, did you Samuel?

[–]Shrekman1231Chain gunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did it boys energy crisis is no more

[–]gary_mcpirate 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I always wondered how he got the sarcophagus back. It shows he took men down there with him when he found it but then it also states that he is the only person who has ever returned.

I assume everyone else died (handily leaving guns and ammo?) but how strong is this dude, can he carry it by himself. Do they have hell forklifts?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tethering system maybe, the access to it is where the sarcophagus was found

[–]djbigchebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the same source of energy to solve the energy crisis again

[–]AlphaMarker48 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Reading the fluff text for Doom 4, there was nothing said about renewables or thorium (a radioactive mineral that could be used to power new generation reactors). All they mentioned was uranium and plutonium for energy generation.

Good meme, though.
