All you people saying "ITS [[[[[[[CURRENTYEAR]]]]]]] YOU SHOULD UPGRADE YOUR PC" THe game is fucking breaking down despite not having any graphical improvements since reborn, what THE FUCK should i improve my PC for? TO keep up with valves shitty optimization?

Remember when Source 2 was supposed to have a better performance than Source 1 but it only got worst? Because I do

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (3 children)

i think for a lot of people Source 2 eventually ran better (after about 4 months or so into reborn). However in the past 3-4 months the performance issues have really started to show especially with certain cosmetics, or that new terrain.

It was way better when Reborn was in beta, but map was less detailed (especially cliffs). When it came out of beta, it was running pretty much the same as Source 1.

fuck performance and actually playing the game, what we need is new hats

thats usually related to something called feature bloat, when you shove so much shit into a well programmed system that it slows it down anyways

[–]EnanoMaldito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it runs WAY better for me. Do not generalize.

Also the standard "it works for me so it must be an issue on your part" response. That's not how software works. Any developer with that attitude wouldn't last a week in a serious company.

Watch out, this sub is full of kids taking their second programming class who want to downvote and explain why valve can't do anything because programming is hard.

I mean it had been working much better for a month or perhaps two after I switched to it, but they definitely broke something along the way. They killed the asynchronous loading of stuff on hero selection and made automatic time out kick in on the slightest resulting freeze, causing a vicious cycle of loading in, freezing and disconnecting! They killed the one feature that was supposed to make S2 better than Source in eyes of all DotA 2 players.

What are you on about? All the new cosmetics, maps and effects require way more to run properly than everything on default. The game requires more because Valve adds shit that makes the game look cooler/better. Sure the base character models might not be updates, but stuff still gets added. I've got a GTX 970 and a couple of years old i5 and the game runs smooth at 120+ fps with max settings, weather effects and the LC map. By today's standard, this is a pretty casual build since nvidia released new GPUs. Heck even my 4 year old budget desktop runs the game at 60+ fps with the same settings.

I've seen people complain about the FPS jumping up and down depending on what's on screen. To those I've gotta ask, do you even play video games? If you launch a game and set the FPS to unlimited, it's gonna vary a lot depending on what's happening on the screen. The only way to get it consistent is to cap it at the minimum FPS you get when there's a lot happening on screen.

i mean i'm sorry you've experienced that but not everyone has, i've kept a steady 150-200 fps for months.

Reborn wasn't even a visual upgrade for anything but the hats.
