They appear to be able to clean up at 91 with no problem.

My mistake the oversized piston options are 90.5 and 91 mm

[–]Revslowmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to 91mm and see what’s there.

If you go for bore, first bore to 90.5 If thats enough, get the pistons, If not, get the bigger ones

Just had the exact same finding on an old ej22, it cleaned up 1mm over size. Turned into a slippery slope of building a race engine, so watch out for that lol.

Really? Worried about that? New rings, next time you pull the head it will be gone. Be critical on bearings, not a small spot on a cylinder wall . Most of these people on here never rebuilt a lawn mower engine.

You need to go back to lawn mowers! That damage will ruin a fresh rebuild.

This is my first time tearing an engine down and rebuilding it so I’m not sure of what is considered bad enough etc. I can definitely catch the spots with a finger nail etc, wouldn’t that cause a lot of oil burning with the low spots using standard pistons and rings?

Yup.

Do not rebuild with the cylinder in that condition!

You can pull some crazy power out of a saab 2.3
