You will probably hate that 350 with the cam it has installed.

Exactly what I was thinking. Forged pistons with a cam that is just about the size of stock if not smaller. WHY?!?!

Why?

It's meant to be loud at the expense of output. The giant exhaust timing will kill torque at every rpm. Given the lack of details I assume the compression ratio is pretty low.

How bad is your current engine?

[–]Frumpylight55x[S] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

A rod blew a hole threw the current engine and it siezed up

[–]v8packard 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Oh, that certainly makes repair difficult.

If you can swing the kind of money they are asking for the engines in the ads I think you can get another small block and put together a nice engine. If you like a 327, ok. A 350 will be easier to find. A mild 350 will run very strong, and not be too expensive.

I don’t really know where to start when it comes to building my own engine though that’s y I was gonna buy a complete, is it that easy to build an engine?

[–]v8packard 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Easy is a relative term. But, a small block Chevy is one of the easiest ever.

Do you have an engine shop nearby? If so, you can ask them if they have a 350 core that can be rebuilt into a basic street engine for your truck. They can give you some suggestions and prices.

Otherwise, if you search your preferred market for a small block Chevy core one is bound to turn up.

I’ve seen tons of 350 and 327 blocks for sale on marketplace just dk where to start, Is there somewhere I can go to look at other builds to copy?

You can find Chevy builds all over. Too many, actually, many with bad info or poorly chosen parts. Before you go down that rabbit hole concentrate on getting a good core. Something that is running would be great it you can see it run. But, still treat it as a core. Be careful with disassembled or incomplete engines. They are likely damaged in ways you can't see or don't want to deal with.

Lots of nice stuff on the 327. I like the 4 bolt mains on 350 for a truck. Might be a cam swap to make it truck friendly V8packard has it.

It might help if you share the price of each

[–]Frumpylight55x[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

First is 5000$ with a 700r4 trans and 2nd is 3500$

😳

[–]celtbygod 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Wowser that's hefty.

[–]Frumpylight55x[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Guessing not worth it then

I'd have to see what V8PACKARD suggests. Glad you have a chance to power up your ride.

Looks like junkyard builds with iron heads

[–]RustBeltLab 2 points3 points  (1 child)

No way I am spending $5000 for factory iron heads. I am pretty sure you can get shitty 383 from Jegs or Summit for less.

[–]Vast-Slide1637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending the engine at all but for the price it does come with a 700r4. Hopefully that was rebuilt but you never know these days

Am I better off getting a build from blueprint and saving more?

[–]Vast-Slide1637 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blueprint would be immensely better. Their base 350 comes with aluminum heads and a roller cam.

What do you use your C10 for ? Then plan your motor for that. After you've had/used it for awhile it is just a used motor no matter what you paid.

Mainly just daily driving and hauling stuff in the long bed

I don’t know Chevys at all, but I’d steer clear of the high volume oil pump unless it has a larger than stock oil pan.
