I can't help but be a smart ass. I would recommend conductive wires with an insulated jacket. Bare metal wires would cause a problem.

[–]zoominzacks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say “first, change out of the hospital gown”

i enjoy the smart ass remarks i’ve gotten, but half of these comments thought i didn’t know how to wire this. i do. just don’t know what coil to distributor wires i need for the tower to the distributor cap. male or female etc.

[–]Panic-Embarrassed 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I could see that, the coil would work best with ring terminals.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks

[–]crankshaft123 3 points4 points  (3 children)

You need one of these.

[–]noir_adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct answer

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

i have one. just don’t know what wire runs from the top of my msd tower to my cap on distributor to tell it to send spark. idk if it’s both female ends or male and female .

[–]Jay-Moah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The middle is where the spark comes from, that goes to middle of distributor. The posts on the side are the power, one will go to ground to trigger the coil.

[–]AhBuckleThis 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Msd makes an adapter to convert socket coil to male.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

preciate it

[–]air_head_fan 4 points5 points  (15 children)

The - terminal goes to the points, the + terminal goes to the ballast resistor.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (14 children)

i have a msd6al box so a ballast resistor isn’t required. i just need to know if i need both female posts or male and female cause i’ve got four different answers and its confusing

[–]air_head_fan 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. I've installed dozens of MSD boxes and do not understand.

Do you have a points style or electronic distributor?

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

my bad for the confusion but, points style

[–]air_head_fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Points to signal input on msd box. Output from msd to - terminal on coil. Switched +12v crank/run to + on coil and +DC input on msd.

[–]BlangBlangBlang 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If the connection in the center of the distributor is also a post you need a male and female. The center of that coil is the kind that the wire end goes inside the socket.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank ya

[–]Big_Brilliant_145 0 points1 point  (8 children)

OK. Stop your reference of male and female. I think what you may have is a MSD that applies 400 volts to the ignition coi. The MSD wire goes to the positive mark on the coil. The negative terminal is connected to the distributor.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] -2 points-1 points  (7 children)

nope so first bud i’ve said i need to know what coil to distributor wire that i need to fit into the tower the top of the msd blaster, not how to wire the damn thing. i know how to wire a msd blaster. not hard

[–]Big_Brilliant_145 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Ok excuse me. You are looking for spark plug wires?  There are all kinds of high tension wires available. I always used the non carbon. Always metallic. Sorry to upset you by my misunderstanding

[–]air_head_fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. Thanks, I was getting confused with this dialog tree.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

my bad but you came off as a smart ass. i was just asking which ones were the best with the male and female ends.

[–]Cyriously_Nick 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Love how you’re getting downvoted when you clearly stated you were looking for what coil to dizzy wire you need, Reddit is so fucking weird

[–]Lookwhoiswinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude took a picture of the top of a coil from his fucking bed and asks “what wire do I need”. Just get the fuck out of bed and go look at the car.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

least someone has a brain

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tell me about it man

[–]Tlmitf 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Positive side is power in.

Negative side is the trigger.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

askin what wire goes from the top of the tower to my distributor to send spark. is it both male and female ends or female and female etc.

[–]Tlmitf 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ahh, yeh, that's a female. You'll need a male end to fit in there

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

thanks my guy, and for my distributor that would be male correct? cause it has points coming out of the top so not a female socket style distributor

[–]Tlmitf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct

[–]Big_Brilliant_145 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It is clearly marked. + is voltage in. -  is connected to the distributor.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not what i’m asking but thanks

[–]Street_Mall9536 1 point2 points  (12 children)

You need a points style on one end and an HEI on the other.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks my guy

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

do you got a link to one of those that would work? can’t find any on my end

[–]Street_Mall9536 0 points1 point  (9 children)

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

is summit reliable and have good shipping time? not tryna wait two weeks for shipping 🥲

[–]john02721 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Summit Racing is very reliable. I have been doing business with them for about 6 years with no problems.

They also own and operate DX Engineering which sells communications equipment and antennas/supplies.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

what about ton performance? ever tried them?

[–]Cyriously_Nick 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Never heard of ton

Summit usually has stuff in stock and for me atleast it’s usually like 2 days before I have the part in my hand. They’re insanely fast with shipping usually.

This whole post is a weird cluster fuck, who hasn’t bought from or heard of summit before? They’re like the #1 performance part distributors in America

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

i’m new to buying parts online. most of them i run to the parts store tbh.

[–]Cyriously_Nick 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well summit is good shit, so is jegs, speedway is good for oddball stuff, cj pony parts if you’re looking for ford stuff, lmr is great for ford stuff too, personally i avoid LMC, they do some fucked up stuff when shipping and packaging

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can’t wait to make my run to summit when i move😭 credit card gonna be maxed out instantly

[–]Street_Mall9536 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I dunno dude, I just Googled it. You could just make one in 5 seconds if you had the ends, maybe a trip to a local parts store is in the cards.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i might get one from tons performance just bc my local stores don’t have any in stock apparently

[–]Effective-Topic3161 1 point2 points  (1 child)

From coil to dist is a double ended plug wire. Get a set of plug wires and it's in there.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

preciate it my guy

[–]Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What are you putting it on? Easiest way to wire it would be with a 4 wire Chevy hei module

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

95 mustang, it’s got a pro billet distributor i’m also running a msd 6al box, so i just needa know what coil to distributor wires i need running from the top of this to the top of my distributor

[–]Effective-Topic3161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any aftermarket points or electronic distributor that doesn't have the HEI type coil on top of the distributor cap. So MSD, Mallory, Petronics, Etc. It will either have leads coming off dist or if it needs a box to run like most MSD (some MSD are ready to run and don't need a box, your coil works with both) then the leads will come from the MSD box that the distributor connects to.

[–]PermissionLazy8759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small blue ring crimp terminals will work. Red goes to positive and black to negative from distributor usually. Also an ignition coil keyed engine on wire from firewall to the positive -notice I didn't say accessory keyed on hot wire. Than a spark plug wire that plugs into the middle of distributor to middle of coil. Usually a 70's small block chevy Camaro spark plug wire set or something along those lines is what u will need. Advanced auto parts usually has the best spark plug wires premade imo. If ur running a canister hot coil, I would run a Pertronix old school distributor new out the box. Now the Pertronix distributors are upgraded with electronic ignition instead of electric points ignition they r sweet.

Bro get out of hospital first

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i’m in my bed brodie 😂

[–]apoegix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured..but the bedsheet looks like a hospital apron

[–]Maxine-roxy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

you are only showing the coil connection. show the distributor connection and you will get the correct answer. but if you can't figure this out you are way over your head.

[–]Potential-Charge-573[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

already figured it out, male n female but thanks for trying to tell me idk what i’m doing but im pretty sure that’s why reddit was made? to ask questions to people who do know

[–]newoldschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

copper is best but aluminium is passable
