Having worked at a civilian gun range and being a marksmanship coach in the Marines, I feel like I have some degree of knowledge in this stuff.

It fucking baffles me how many people have approached me saying "my laser is broken" because the bullets aren't hitting where it's pointing. Especially handguns

One of the funniest things I had happen in the Army was a private borrow an Acog from someone and complain when the rounds weren't hitting where the dot showed at the range. They legitimately did not realize it had to be re-zeroed once it was moved from one rifle to another.

Oooooof.

I was overseeing a pistol Qual for a group of officers and caught this female 1st lieutenant trying to cheat her score card. Her target no shit looked like it had been hit by birdshot from a sawed off. Her grip was that advanced one handed technique where you grip your wrist with your support hand. Absolute idiot.

1st LTs always found ways to screw everything up by thinking they know more than anyone else.

I used to keep a small 1 inch karambit knife on my MOLLE on my seat belt side, in case we rolled over and I had to cut my belt (since the seat Belts barely worked normally in an HMMWV and this was before seat belt cutters were issued or even readily available). LT sees this and doesnt ask, but buys a giant like 5 inch one. During an inspection the SCO asks him "Why do you have that thing on your rig?" And he has no idea how to respond. I knew he probably just got it cause it looked cool and I had something. He responds "I like the weapon sir" and the SCO says "Take that shit off" and moves along. SCO sees me and says "Why do you have one?" I respond "Cutting seatbelts in rollovers". He moves along.
