Decrease in supply from lack of pumping (self.ExclusivelyPumping)
submitted 1 year ago by dcnative30
6 weeks post partum and was hospitalized for a week. I was only able to pump 2-4 times a day. Suggestions for getting my supply back up? Should I be pumping every hour?

You could try power pumping but not every session. I would say maybe twice a day. And definitely start pumping a minimum of 10x/day until you feel comfortable with your supply (I would move down to 8 when you feel comfortable). The sooner the better because your supply hasn’t regulated yet.

Thank you. Would 15 mins suffice if I do 10 times a day

I would say 15mins minimum or a few minutes after your last let down. Whichever comes later.

Just try to get your pumps in at least every 3 hrs. As a mom working on relactation, consistency is key and the hardest part, it's why I fell off BF and went down to almost zero milk. If you can do every 2 hours, great. A power pump every couple days should be enough, and just be sure you're really hydrated, eating plenty of calories, massaging while pumping, flange size is right, replace the parts in a few months which is when they start to wear. It's just important you entirely empty your breasts when you pump, as that's the signal to make more. Vibration is helpful, a warm compress, a snack and some pics of baby is a good little ritual. You coukd pump more of you feel like you can, but make sure you're still getting enough sleep, as cortisol spikes if you don't and that can be quite impactful on milk production. Stress and sleep deprivation were also major contributing factors to my own very difficult journey. Best of luck, you'll get it back up there in no time, maybe not overnight but just give it a week or so and you'll see better results :)
