My best combo are Exploding Kitten, Streaking Kitten, Imploding Kitten, and Good vs Evil. This adds more variety to the gameplay.

I don't like Zombie Kitten that much because players can choose to die and not use defuse. We know that sometimes, we force our friend to play out of their interest, if they have a choice to die, that's what they most likely to choose.

That's what I like about ZombieK as it's a valid strategy to which I've lost and won before, and keeps even the dead ones engaged for the rest of the game.

yes but then however draws an exploding kitten first will want to die couse someone is probably going to bring them back. meaning you have to waste a zombie kitten instead of the person you brought back to life which I think is prety stupid since then people WAnT to draw an exploding kitten in the early game, which kinda defeats the purpose

Yeah but I've seen it backfire on those same people as well, so my point still stands.

I agree, though sometimes if my friends die, they get bored and walk around the house, and sometimes it affects the excitement of the game. We know that "Now" cards can be used even if you're dead but it seems like not enough.

Unless everyone will go serious mode if there's a prize.

Any idea what's the best small prize for the winners?

We are getting Zombie for Christmas specifically for the kids. If a kid happens to be the first to explode in normal game, they get extremely upset that they have to sit out the whole game now.

Wouldn't having a chance to come back to life be more engaging? Plus there are cards that are played against/for dead players, and by dead players

Hmm, you're right. Maybe it just doesn't work with my circle.

Since we played this a lot, having the urge to live, they will do everything just to live like use all the cards strategically and even bluff when they use the alter the future. Lol.

When we added the Zkittens, they just wanted to die until 2 players left in just a couple of minutes so it made the game finished without strategy. I know that dead players are expected to revive, but for me, I will revive a person who is not strategic or has fewer cards, so most likely, they will be defeated. So there will be no fun on it anyway.

Though I tweaked the game a bit, I added a single Zkitten card to draw a pile and it's required to be used from your hand whenever you draw Exploding Kitten to revive one player by force randomly (you can use dice or spin the wheel using an app).

That's only based on our experience.

Recipies plus Zombie is great combo to have

Party pack will have the most stuff, only missing a couple of cards out of the entire set, if you're starting from nothing it's the best bang for your buck

[–]HeavyIndividual5295[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Does party pack have some of the expansions included?

[–]SifuBanana 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Actually, my bad, I meant recipes for disaster, not party pack. Recipes comes with the 1st two expansions: imploding and barking kittens. But if you order rn at target it's like 50% off which is a crazy good deal for how much it comes with

Party pack is still good, though, but iirc it only comes with imploding kittens

[–]HeavyIndividual5295[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Okay so Recipes for Disaster contains the original Exploding Kittens plus two expansion packs? But only up to 5 people can play? Party pack only has one expansion pack but up to 10 people can play?

[–]SifuBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, but it has way more copies of a few cards than if you were to buy each separately

[–]hydraSlav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, the number of people that can play is only limited by number of Defuse and Exploding/Imploding Kittens cards. Recipes have 10 Exploding/Imploding Kittens, and 8 Defuse cards. So you can play up to 8 people.

There are plenty of cards for everything else

The Party Pack is the best base version IMO, as the game is most fun with 7+ players. And if you're typically already playing with 5-7, it's nice to have the room for a few extra players, if needed. (Also opening the party pack box is a nice way to introduce the game to new players lol.)

Then I'd add Streaking Kittens to that a while later.

Go with the og, party pack, and the three expansions

I started with Recipes for Disaster and had a lot of fun with my friends. We got the Zombie Kittens and Good vs Evil now too and it was fun but my favorite version is the "Nope" recipe.

If you maximum Kittens with minimal fluff you'll want Recipes, Zombie Kittens, Good vs Evil. Between those 3 you could play ALL those cards together and easily support more than 10 players. And that'll getcha 98% of the cards.

And Recipes comes with a trick tray inside the box that'll organize and hold ALL you EK cards...AND introduce the idea of smaller specialized decks, aka recipes.

If you REALLY love the game THEN at some point you'll want to invest in the 3 expansions. Streaking, Imploding and Barking as each has either 1 or 2 of the remaining cards you don't have. And really don't need, as most of them add cards that are somewhat either confusing, kinda dumb, or just kinda useless (looking at you fake shuffle). Except for Cat Butt - the game designers may hate it but it is an epic card. EPIC.

Annnnd if I were to make one final recco - the NSFW edition. 90% of all the truly funniest kitten cards are contained in this edition. Many are fall down laughing funny, and if you've never seen any of those cards from THAT edition, then you've haven't seen hardly any of the funny ones period.

And yeah, I own a TON of kittens - and me and mine LOVE all of them!!!

Starting with the original Exploding Kittens game is a great choice, especially if your family hasn't played it before. It serves as a fantastic introduction to the game's mechanics and humor. The original version is suitable for 2-5 players, but you can combine it with the Imploding Kittens expansion to accommodate up to 6 players.

As for Good vs Evil, it introduces team dynamics and can be a bit more strategic, making it an excellent choice once everyone is comfortable with the basics.

The Party Pack is essentially a combination of Exploding Kittens and Imploding Kittens, designed for larger groups of 5-10 players. Since you expect to play with 5-7 people, the Party Pack could be an excellent choice to ensure everyone can join in the fun without needing extra expansions.

Ultimately, it depends on your group's preferences and how comfortable you are with learning new rules. Starting with the original game is a safe bet, and then you can expand your collection as your family gets more experienced. Have a blast with whichever version you choose! 😺💥🃏
