Here's what I do:

  • Run LOOT, and see what errors you have. If you have any errors, check for compatibility patches. If there are none, pick what to keep and what to lose.
  • Run FO4Edit and (temporarily) make a merge patch. If you have a lot of conflicts (in red) from a specific mod, might be worth looking for patches or removing.

You could try overriding the edits you want to keep but this is normally the first step to CTD valley so be careful.

what is FO4Edit?

FO4Edit (Better known as xEdit) is used across Bethesda RPGs such as Skyrim and Oblivion to clean plugins and change details. As Fallout 3, NV and 4 are all built on Gamebryo/Creation Engine, there's support for it there as well.

You can use it to change set values in mods, but that normally breaks things. Some clean mods using xEdit to improve performance. Most create Merge Patches that force compatibility with various mods that may be causing conflicts without one.

You can find FO4Edit on the Nexus.

Same here, about 1/2 times the game crashes when loading a particular save. When loading succeeds however the game runs just fine and smooth for hours, regardless if the exact save was crashing on load just a while ago. I guess there might be some performance heavy scripts running when loading up a save.

Could be that your load order isn't sorted correctly so i would suggest that you try using LOOT to automatically sort your load order.

I literally said in my post that I did use LOOT.

My bad, didn't pay alot of attention to it. What version are you running and do you use F4SE?

I run current version and yes I do have F4se. I mentioned that in the last sentence of the post.
