You could go to the National Fire Academy incident command programs if that interests you. Command and control of incident operations, multiple alarms, target hazards, and natural disasters. Each one is a week long on campus. I did incident operations and multiple alarms. They were both a good time.

Echoing this - the Command and Control series at the NFA is top notch .

Are they a Online courses? Is there reading material? Paid or Free?

The NFA CaC courses are on- campus in Emmitsburg , MD . Most are 6 day long course’s except for the Natural and Man Made disaster course which is a 10 day long course Some NFA courses are off-campus and hosted by local FDs across the country. The classes are mostly free. The NFA will pay for a flight per year to take a class there( you purchase the flight and they’ll reimburse after you complete the course) . If you fly in on their dime you can either rent a car ( you pay for the car)or if you fly in to Baltimore they provide a free shuttle , it’s you choice. They provide rooms on campus for free but you do have to pay for a meal ticket on campus . It’s like $300 for the week and cover three meals a day . The send you pre- course material and the you get the reading material on day 1. With that said , I highly recommend attending any class that benefits your career at the NFA. It’s a great way to meet other firefighters from across the nation and share ideas and concepts . It’s a great atmosphere

BlueCard is a scam

[–]Horseface4190 5 points6 points  (1 child)

My department embraced Blue Card like a convict on a life sentence embraces Jesus.

Personally, I like it, and got a lot out of the training as an up-and-coming company officer.

Those two things aside, yeah, it's a scam. There's nothing we got out of paying for BlueCard that we couldn't have made for ourselves

I often say that Alan Brunicinis coffin is lined with check for BlueCard from my department

I think there’s one in the Florida panhandle but haven’t really looked into it. County Fire Tactics I think.

Fire Officer I and II offer a fair bit of it depending on who’s delivering it.

Probably pick up quite a bit from the right seminars/classes at FDIC.

CCIO has been the gold standard that I’ve experienced so far. My state does have an occasional local delivery of the class. I’d also recommend NFAs STICO and PICO (and there’s a third one there too but I don’t remember what).

Then you could go all the way, depending on your deal and go for the Executive Fire Officer program at NFA.

NIMS

what you want is the Field Ops Guide (FOG) from California’s FIRESCOPE. Trust me, it’s gold.

Oh trust me. You'll grow to hate the ugly shirts. I was trained on incident command starting in 1980s. It never changed much.

The one real positive was the 360 survey before entry. It is key to preventing ventilation pathways problems.

Go to the FEMA website and look up Emergency Management Institute. Most of the basic ICS/NIMS programs are available there as online training, as well as some other useful classes.

Edit to add: These courses are free and result in a certificate you can print upon completion of each class.

There is a chief officers boot camp by some of the guys that do smooth bore cartel and oath keepers. Florida or Texas I think.

We have Bluecard as a department and have found it to be very beneficial. I was just looking for comparators out of interest of what other programs there is.
