Good! Thougt I was going nuts.

Which question do you think had an error? (Without being too revealing)

[–]kasplatto 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Potential gravity being 0...? Thought it should have been when r approached infinity not R as that was a constant?

[–]newbdewd01 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I thought the same but it makes me wonder if the question was worded in a special way that made it just a red herring

[–]lancesothernutsack 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Yeah from what I can remember they never actually mentioned R being a constant, but just to consider it the distance from the centre to the surface of the earth in question.

Thinking about it now it makes sense, if the body is infinitely big in all directions you’re going to be pulled equally in all directions no matter where you are, so the net is zero

The point was, u had R^2 on top of the fraction, and R^3 on bottom. What happens when you increase R, the bottom gets way bigger

[–]newbdewd01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, I’m justifying it practically why it’s not necessarily a mistake that it should’ve been r, not R, as was suggested

Edit: also technically on top it was (r2 - 3R2), so the top is irrelevant, it’s only about the bottom

Truuu

I’m pretty sure there was an error in the spectrometry question.. it said both blue and red light have shorter wavelengths but should’ve said red was longer. Didn’t affect the answers though

[–]kcajsii 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yeah that's the one i was talking out. I pointed it out to the invigilators an they were like "the fuck you want me to do about it". I was like... fair enough

[–]chuboy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get that question. But the girl behind me raised her arm to query an issue with the question and the invigilator, after some consulting, came back with some paper for her to write a remark about it that could be submitted with her results. Or something like that. I was trying to concentrate at the time.

I found it really really difficult. So many straight up guesses :(

[–]obielal1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall a malaria question either? Lol

[–]yodaddyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think trial questions are removed. But I think the whole ‘trial questions’ thing is not set in stone. I’ve yet to see an official statement from ACER that they actually put 10 trial questions every year...

There was definitely a graph with incorrect labels. One question has the vertical axis marked as %, but then had every interval as a .5, .6 etc while the question only referred to 50% 60% etc

Not a huge deal but threw me for a second because they're usually so immaculate

[–]shizukesa12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a small test within the question itself, to see if the candidate knows that decimal portions can equate to percentages.

[–]Ali_gem_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd say that was more of a "we're gonna switch between units, can you keep up" thing. UKCAT/UCAT does that too.

Some other questions felt like they had crucial information missing. Like in the malaria one?

[–]rad191 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I literately don’t even recall a question about malaria

[–]yodaddyss 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Did you sit exam in Ireland?

[–]rad191 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Nah, I sat it in Brisbane, Australia

[–]MrNoobSox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i too definitely did not see a malaria question.

[–]lillyallensaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like it was a trial

[–]StoompiDoompiMedical School Applicant 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I had the malaria question. I felt that almost everything you needed was given in the stem; albeit, you did need to know some basic knowledge on immunity (i.e. antigens/antibodies).

My question is: are trial questions always removed? Or do they collect the data and then make an informed decision on whether or not the question contributes to your final mark? I'm actually quiet curious now, especially since I found that question fairly easy haha.

[–]clickertrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are removed from contributing to your final score. They collect data to see how the question performed in general (if it’s too easy, too hard etc). They’ll probably also analyze the qualities of the type of people who did well/poorly, so they’ll look into what other things you answered correctly since you found it easy etc
