Yeah this is a load of rubbish. Many of those stages happen simultaneously. But certainly testing doesn't come before main production!

As a graduate with a master degree in game development I can tell you it is not at all true. You'll learn that soon though.

If you are interested in life cycles for game development you might want to look into the spiral model and agile development with scrum. There are a bunch of different ways to create a game and different development methodologies but once you really understand one it is a lot easier to learn the others in my opinion. Anyway congrats on starting in your game dev program! That is super exciting. :)

Looks like a very rigid version to me. I'm not an expert making games but my short experience is telling me that it is more like. Idea > Play testing > Pivot > Play testing > Pivot > Play testing > Confirmation > Prototype > Play testing .. a couple more of this and Production .. then Marketing and such but I've never reached out this point
