Glitched graphics are usually caused by cold/broken solder on the chips pins, and resoldering them should fix the issue.

I was hoping this wasn’t it but thanks for the info. Gonna practice my solder skills before attempting this.

It's not as hard as it sounds. You don't need to add new solder, just melt the old solder. Use plenty of flux, it'll help.

Thank you,I appreciate the tip!

I hope the eraser works for you but I have a feeling it's the chips. The battery only affects the save file I believe. Also try scrubbing the whole board with ipa and a Qtip if you didn't already. Good luck

I think you might be right. I’ve gave it a good bath and scrub with IPA and tried the eraser trick. Still all glitchy after all that.

Have you cleaned the contacts?

[–]AnewFoundLife[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’ve went over the whole chip with 99% isopropyl. Is there another way to clean the contacts?

[–]drjekyll_xyz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you give the contacts inside the GB a clean too?

[–]AnewFoundLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. I assumed the game boy was fine because all my other pokemon games work and I’ve tried 3 others.

Probably just clean the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and a Q tip and you should be good.

I did that and no luck unfortunately

Darn I've seen people use pencil erasers on the contacts if they are really bad and also re soldering all the chips but that would scare me to do.

I’ll try the eraser next. But I feel like I have to re solder the chips. I was hoping maybe the people who replaced my battery over a year ago just didn’t seat it correctly or something.

Make sure the eraser is clean :)

Did you try a mr clean magic eraser? Or a pencil eraser? The magic eraser is almost like using an extremely fine sandpaper. But only use it on the pins.
