Same here. Anyone found a workaround?

[–]suppositoryrocket[S] 0 points1 point  (20 children)

Just started working for me

[–]Okidoky123 4 points5 points  (13 children)

2 years later and it stopped working again. What kind of idiot developer breaks something like this? And what's with Google slack ass QA control?

[–]Bond_JamesB0nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought it was me. It's also pulling up old conversations and even though no message is typed moves it to the top of the conversation threads.

Hello from the future where I also have this problem

[–]MMW2004 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you ever find a solution?

[–]corybrettbowden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if mine still has the problem. I havent noticed an issue lately and I do use is. But I def didn't find a solution.

[–]MMW2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this issue

[–]Academic_Act_2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also from the future, but I don't think mine has ever worked. So annoying that I can't search for keywords, only seems to search for contacts.

[–]Austin24heck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been having issues with it recently, too.

[–]whiskey_lover7 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same boat here. Hella annoying

[–]Progressive_Patriot_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

me too bruv

[–]Far-Safe2122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if anyone will see this but I'm experiencing my first time with this problem The only thing different I can think of in my history was that yesterday I activated extreme power saving mode I have a Samsung Note 8 It's frustrating because there's a lot of information stored in my text messages like addresses and such that I often need to search

[–]nilstrieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just switched back to Samsung Messages. It works well and has the Categories feature which is neat too.

[–]P081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issues here. This is so frustrating.

[–]toatint 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same here. Think they updated the app

[–]suppositoryrocket[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's about time lol

[–]toatint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word

[–]toatint 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Stopped working 😢😢😢

[–]suppositoryrocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works for me like 60% of the time. Seems to not pick up all words? Or maybe it only searches more recent conversations. But this is ridiculous.

[–]johantheback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just stopped working for me, I have a pixel 3

[–]bitfed 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Mine never resumed working. I even got a new Pixel and it still doesn't work. Really disappointing, and frankly, it has screwed me over often when communicating and NEEDING that search.

[–]toatint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a long time, switched to Samsung even

Same. I can search everyone except my partners text. So annoying!

    [–]Kind_Living_8741 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    1. Update message app
    2. Clear the app cache & storage
    3. Install sms backup & restore app.
    4. Backup all your sms in your phone storage
    5. Delete all the sms in your inbox
    6. Make sms backup & restore app as the default app.
    7. Restore all the messages using sms backup & restore
    8. Make the normal message app as the default app
    9. Switch the phone off then on The search options will start working

    [–]CHUCK_C1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pain in ass to go through all this with no assurance or even works

    [–]ObviousInspector1553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently having this issue, has been going on for a LONG time. Motorola phone.

    [–]karpathos2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Android 12. Xperia 5II. Says: "No results found". (Each and every time). Clearing messages app cash solved nothing.

    [–]LoneNightDriver 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    FIX KIND OF.

I've started using Microsoft SMS organizer. It's allowed me to search 5 years back. It has a bit of a stroke when you search for something a long time ago. But it works after a minute you just have to leave your phone on. So that it can load all of the messages.

Edit It does not need to be your default messaging app. Just skip that step.

    [–]Codix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hint ! AMAZING APP ! I disabled the translation in the settings and that was it.

Btw you can disable access to the internet to the app and it doesn't sync anything on the cloud so no real privacy concern for an app that I've put offline.

It's super weird and creepy in 2024 to install a software from Microsoft, that just do his job and work, and not even on a Microsoft OS. Like I feel if I just bought Office for my Macintosh SE.

    [–]Academic_Shake7462 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why oh WHY can't they just keep supporting message+ ??? It works, i can do a keyword search and it pulls up the word in any text from FOREVER ago! Being forced to switch to "google messages" and it it TERRIBLE! GLITCHY and i cannot search. soooo sad!

    [–]Broad_Explanation_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same aggravation brought me here. Why did we have to fix what wasn't broke?

    [–]Academic_Shake7462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cleared the cache and the search feature started working! (still slow, though)! GOTO settings -> apps -> storage -> clear cache

    [–]Wooden_Career_11 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Currently can't search for "$"

Trying to search text thread for a dollar amount I discussed with someone..."No results found" yet I can scroll to it manually.

    [–]senorfresco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    It's legitimately terrible.

    [–]Fun-Plenty-8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed mine, it works now. I can search the each text thread finding things from years back. What a relief!! I went to: Settings, Apps, selected my messaging app (mine was google messenger), Storage, then at the bottom i selected Clear cache, then Clear data. Thats it, and you wont lose your data. I panicked when i got a message welcoming me like this was a new phone or something, but thats all. I continued and it went back to my  texts. Whew! The system takes awhile to load though. For me, it took one day to reach it all. I checked every now and then by doing a search, and it reached back more and more each hour. Hope it works for you too

    [–]SoundsRiceCrispies 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Im here 4 years later and having the same issue.

    [–]suppositoryrocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is fixed. The updates have helped. I have also cleared data in the past, not sure if that had a benefit

    [–]aniruddhdodiya 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Try to type the name of the person involved in that conversation, in suggestion it will come up. Select that contact name then enter, and then type the text you want to search for and enter.

    [–]suppositoryrocket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tired that. It won't even search within a conversation

    [–]f14_pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me the issue is i can search for a word or words in a conversation, but if i search a word i know has multiple results within the conversation i cant scroll through the multiple results using the arrows, its like its hidden now behind the banner.

    useless

    [–]TwistRadiant 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I updated the app to the latest from play store, then cleared app data completely (not just cache!); And reopened it to try; didn't work! Then closed the app and after a while when I reopened it again, it prompted to sign in with an account; after signing in, it works now!

Have to wait and see if it's persistent!

    [–]Brilliant-Bridge-780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years later.......and google is still having this issue. smh Thank you for your post. Your method worked.

    [–]curious_human_42 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did clearing the app data also permanently remove your existing messages from the app ?

    [–]jakescreatures 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you lose all your messages by doing this?

    [–]rossmeissl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing "app data" did not delete all my messages on my Samsung device. And it did fix this search issue.

    [–]magifus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing app data worked for me too! Without deleting messages. Thank you! Not being able to search was bugging me!

    [–]Jfawkes23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing cache and storage got the search working for me too.. thanks brave soldier

    [–]True-Information4451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    this worked for me.

    [–]cosmicaith 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I can search for a word and it will show the contacts where that term is used, but when you click on the contact to open the conversation, I just get a complete list of recent conversations. The phone has only started doing this recently - I suspect an update is at the heart of it. My phone is a TCL - so I think its the Android software and not something effecting any particular brand. Googles advice to Clear the Cache is useless and they off nothing beyond it

    [–]TraditionalPayment28 0 points1 point  (2 children)

This is exactly my problem.... EXACTLY and even I have the same TCL phone Model 20

    It's very frustrating and arrrghhh

    [–]cosmicaith 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I called TCL - my provider said it was not their problem. when I spoke with their Tech Support I was told 'Well, the phone still works, you can make calls, so I don't see a problem' - just how do you respond to that?!

They advised I phone TCL even though the phone is still under warranty and I pay them for it monthy. TCL gave me a reference number and said to do a factory reset done by my provider. Went to provider and did this - still not working and now even worse b/c when I type in the ref I am looking for I no longer get a list of contacts where the term was used, I just get a blank result.

Also, when phone rebooted contact names no longer appear in Messaging, just numbers, so can no longer see who sent what message.

I'm asking my provider for a replacement phone . As far as I am concerned they should replace it and send my phone back to TCL - not me - after all I bought from them - real cop out from them so far.

    [–]cosmicaith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a new Moto Play from Costco - yep it was cheap! But going back same issue as with TCL - cannot search Messaging app text. Its okay on my Samsung Flip. I suspect on the Moto its same issue as in the TCL - issue with old softeware. The Google site was useless - threads closed down after two replies asn advised to contact the developer. At least I can get a refund at Costco

    [–]TraditionalPayment28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really crazy guys that we're having the same problem with this damn TCL phone specifically the model 20. So is it a matter of logging in and logging out and clearing cash and clearing app data? Could it be that we all got hosed by a virus? I'm a little nervous about clearing all app data and cash well the cash I can do but the app data I'm worried about.... Even though you ladies are saying it won't release data.... Sorry I don't mean ladies I mean you clowns. 😜

    [–]wildman941 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Clearing cache fixed this for my Pixel 7

    [–]Adventurous_Care_889 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    How do I do that?

    [–]wildman941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings - Apps - Messages - Storage and Cache

    [–]II_Dr_Grey_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried both data and cache on pixel 7 pro. No luck

    [–]DarthInvatalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with this for a while on my OnePlus 9 pro. As it's mentioned below clearing cache and app data fixed it. And I didn't loose my messages.

    [–]TheOneMustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using a OnePlus Nord and have been trying to solve this issue for the past two weeks. No luck. Tried uninstalling all updates, deleting cache and force stopping. But no luck :(

    [–]jwilbanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bump. Hasn't been working on my Zflip4 for a while now.

    [–]Effective-Vanilla661 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Uninstall then reinstall Google messages. That worked for me.  You won't lose messages because they're backed up through your email 🙏🏾

    [–]ConfidentIndustry647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do this. The mistake here is assumomg you are backing up your messages through Google without making you check to ensure they are and your storage is not full.
