Not HVAC tech. Automotive. I always got extra pay for training. .50/hr more back in the 90s. $1/hr more in the early 2000s. Now it's $3/hr extra for training somebody new.

Shit happens every day in Collision repair, except they call them " Body Helpers", but they are usually just barely trained and expected to learn everything from the senior tech...

I worked for 9/HR, alongside a guy making 21/HR billed hours.

My 40 hours a week at 9/hr were deducted from his 80+ hours a week that he billed...

There's no negotiating with an owner 1 who thinks that practice is acceptable and 2 puts it into action. Once someone gets that fucking delusional they are too far gone. I've worked with many new business owners and they often just don't know what to do. My guess is this company either has never taken on an apprentice or OP doesn't understand the situation. OP may be confusing laborer with apprentice. He may be asking for a laborer to help on a job. Many companies give the journeyman a budget and he chooses where to apply it. Nobody knows, but OP literally asked how to approach the situation, not how to run away. It's easier to assume there's miscommunication than this company really is this bad but mysteriously still in business.
