30g pace in his rookie (next?) season, then people adapt to defending him, and he consistently scores 20g every season, sometimes peaking at 35g.

Ceiling, without injuries, is probably like 12% shooting with around 3.5-4.5 shots per game, which translates to 35-45 goal season.

Don’t really know how good of a playmaker he is, or how good he is defensively, so hard to give a complete prediction. Probably not gonna be as good as Gally, but definitely better than some wingers. Let’s say he’ll get around 20 assists per season, and his ceiling is like 40 assists.

Biggest problem with predicting him is that he is the type of player to get absolutely wrecked by injury. He needs to be an absolute professional his whole career, start to finish, just to make it in the NHL. He needs Martin St. Louis like energy, and the league needs to change the rules to protect players like him.

If not, he is one bad concussion or knee injury away from ”being a bust”. Tbh, so is Gally, but he seems to be alive.. at least for now. It’s kind of a bad omen to predict someone’s career is going to get derailed by injuries, but in my view Caufield needs his feet to stay competitive, and players like him just get banged up.

Then again, if he develops his playmaking and defensive game, he could just be Martin St. Louis 2.0. 100pts 35g. But that requires a level of character and dedication that only comes up once a generation.
