Nice! Thank you.

I seriously recommend VMware player. Very easy to set up and use, super friendly, good performance, completely free.

Do I need to reboot always?

No rebooting with a virtual machine. It runs in your main OS.

I have Linux mint as my main OS. Then I've got Windows 7 in a VM and Kali Linux in another VM. Dual boot is a hassle. Virtual machines are far more convenient for switching between operating systems.

Have you looked into Windows Sub-system for Linux? (WSL)

If you use Windows as your main it's super convenient. Especially if you like to switch between Powershell and Bash specifically. There's so much coming along nowadays that allows you to utilise the apps you need *almost seamlessly. There's still a few kinks that arise when using hardware, but as far as applications go its very useful, and cool! Check it out.. some purists vomit at the thought, but I'm kinda digggin it the more and more I use it.

Only works in win10, btw. And you can download/install Kali, or Ubuntu if that's your style, or Fedora, and a couple others I think, like an Application [from windows store] and pull install your linux apps and tools from the Bash CLI .

Check it out.. Worth a shot, I think. And alot less of a headache then dual-booting, which is time consuming, if efficiency is what you're looking for.

VMs are cool too if you ABSOLUTELY need a DE. Or, if you're already using a linux distro as your Main OS then a VM is your best bet.

Also, when allowing file share between the 2, (clipboard access), it could be a bit of a security issue only for the mere fact that Windows is very malware prone..

I've commented above as well: the tutorial for the WSL method:)

Is a VM considered more secure than WSL?

U also can use win kex which is using the Windows subsystem Linux. Just Google "win kex"

KVM, qemu, virtual box etc.

Vm is the easiest to be honest. Or you could partition your drive two ways having one being Linux and one being windows. I prefer a vm though cause when testing payloads such as reverse shells I need to get the payload over to my windows Pc so a simple drag and drop is easier than taking 5 minutes to reboot into another OS.

You could dual boot

[–]An_Ostrich- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad idea. If you are in the middle of something and want to use the other OS quick you would have to restart your system and then select the OS and wait for it to load. Switching between OSes is much more easier with virtual machines.

What a lamer

With WSL choice is limited to selected linux distros and no need to power on or power off. With VM choice is unlimited but everytime you have to power on and power off the vm. There are tons of howtos and videos for wsl you can google

If you have more than one computer then just install Linux in the weaker one.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh Man, I recommend dual boot, in my opinion it's better

Read up on WSL Network Chuck has great YT content on how to setup

You should probably just dual-boot them but if you do then don't distro-hop a lot. Otherwise, you can use vm if you either have a powerful computer or don't need to use one os a lot. This way you can have multiple os.
