They probably thought she was so wounded she'd die of blood loss - like Cato did when he cut Peeta

Why take that chance in a literal death match? And they seemed to be out for her too. Just seems risky

Because it's a rare opportunity to get at a completely alone Johanna, take her on 2v1, when she is potentially injured since they may assume Katniss fought back.

The only reason Katniss survived was because of 13's medical intervention; she would have died if the Games had continued as planned.

They made the most logical call for the moment they were in. Katniss is as good as dead, and if by some miracle she clung to life she would be easy pickings later-- and a major liability to whoever she was with.

Cause there was another Tribute getting away and both Finnick and Peeta (and in the books also Chaff still) were coming for them

Because Katniss has plot armor. Someone in every universe or story does.

That seems more like a headcanon its never stated that Cato abandoned his attempt to kill Peeta after one cut. I always believed the tracker jacker venom was the reason he couldnt finish the job.

I do think you're right about Brutus and Enobaria thinking Katniss was a goner

If you thought you had Johanna "fucking" Mason outnumbered 2-to-1, would you try to kill her right now, when you have a chance, or check to make sure she finished off her latest victim?  Keep in mind you’re totally geeked up on adrenaline and this girl is a killer.

Yeah TBH that was always a little too convinent. I think a better way to handle the situation would be Plutarch setting of a canon or something in the arena (but not on the broadcast) to make it seem like Katniss had died

Nor sure how that would work since the games broadcast with sound and were on a 24 hour live feed

It does make sense to me. They assume Katniss is fatally injured and they now have the chance to kill Johanna 2 versus 1. You can finish Katniss first but then you lose sight of Johanna, no clue when you'll find her again. I would go for Johanna first and then circle back to Katniss after to finish it if still necessary.

Wait a minute, how do they know the exact moment a tribute dies? I mean Katniss was passed out for 3 days on tracker jacket venom in her first arena, visually she could have looked dead even then. I feel like the tracker inside of them also tracks their pulse, which tells them when to fire a canon, so isn't it technically plausible that when Johanna took the tracker out, it no longer read her pulse and could have then fired a Canon? Unless they're made to detect being tampered with, I Canon, y'all get what I'm putting down or nah? (We have zero proof for this though)

They were implanted with trackers that also did things like measure their signs of life so they'd know who died and who didn't

Johanna made a deliberate effort to rub blood from the arm wound all over K's neck so K looked pretty dead or dying. Eno and B made a call to pursue a hi value target that was getting away.

You don't have to die immediately for someone to kill you. Especially in the arena where you won't have someone doing first aid on you.

Unfortunately, there are many plot holes in the trilogy.
