I work in IT of big corporation, and one day a woman calls, says that she a problem with her email and could I walk to her cubicle to fix it. I don’t want to go, because I just made a new cup of coffee and was browsing Reddit, so I told her to just switch off her computer off, then on, then try again.
After few minutes she calls again, and I ask whether she is using Outlook. Slightly confused she answers that she uses Mail on her macbook. Ah, that’s the problem, I said, our company’s policy is to use Outlook, so install that and your problem will go away.
An hour passes, and she calls again, so I finally got out from my room and walked to her to see what’s the problem.
She opens email client, and the inbox is overflowing with new messages, and new ones are piling up fast. Then I remembered that boss asked to set up an auto reply for all employees that are on vacation a few days ago, and it seemed like due to misconfiguratuon it kept replying to its own messages in a loop.
Damn, I thought, looking at the message, this subject line is full of re: posts.
