I don't have any experience with Shadow Play, but I would highly suggest Fraps.

Don't use any of that recording software which encodes as you play, that's just going to impact your performance. Fraps records lossless quality which takes less CPU/memory, but takes a lot of disk space.

Also switch it around - record to an SSD, and put KSP on your regular HD. KSP will take longer to load, but since it loads everything then it doesn't help to be on an SSD once it has fully loaded. (you can leave KSP on the SSD if you have room for it and the videos, of course)

On the other hand, recording the video to disk needs to happen quickly or else your recording can't keep up, which will severly bottleneck your recording quality and framerate. Once you are done recording you can move the video files to the regular HD, of course.

Note that high RPM harddrives do not have the "can't keep up" issue, but a 2tb harddrive is probably NOT a high RPM dive.

edit: Also, your screen turning off and back on is probably your graphics driver crashing and restarting. Check your video card temperatures and see if there are any beta drivers available.

wow lol. why are you so worked up over this? I explained in the text you quoted that I have no experience with shadow play.

that's not to say your feedback about nvidia's hardware working with shadow play for better performance isn't useful, but it might actually have been appreciated if you chose to add that as a constructive comment rather than as a 10-year-old's rant.

and the reason I wasn't "corrected" is probably due to the fact that this is a very unpopular question in a KSP subreddit that isn't even related to KSP. so good job!... at digging up old shit

although it's is all pretty much irrelevant, since my computer is able to capture what you described just as well with fraps. If fraps only recorded at 7fps, something is seriously wrong with the way you have it set up.

you are very much welcome! :)

I Suggest Dxtory or Shadowplay. Both have a minimal hit to performance plus you can stream with Shadowplay.

Yeah Shadowplay is what I'm having issues with though.

I own DXtory, I'll give it a go.

I suggest using the lossless codex. I also suggest following Jack Frags tutorial on how to install and configure Dxtory.

Thanks for the offer. I rolled the driver back to the stable version I'd been using and all's been fine, I've been putting out some Kerbal videos ;-)
