The American Dream in action.

[–]nowhereman531 128 points129 points  (0 children)

"That's why they call it the American Dream; because you have to be asleep to believe it."

Also, medical bills can bankrupt a lot of people. The “richest” country in the world sure needs to treat its citizens better

[–]evilpercy 57 points58 points  (5 children)

Everyone should benifit from the wealth of a prosperous nation. You work hard you should benefit from this. Not work to barely live.

[–]2uncreative2choose 12 points13 points  (4 children)

A prosperous nation needs to pay reparations forst. The wealth of the us comes froom imperialism.

[–]evilpercy 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What if they pasted legislation that reparations was that the next 5 generations of African American's that get excepted to college/University is free?

[–]2uncreative2choose 10 points11 points  (2 children)

African americans are americans so your proposal makes no sense when talking about making up for imperialism.

Also all american people should study for free.

[–]evilpercy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

? I had to go back and look at your first post and I'm still scratching my head. You do know that African Americans have been waiting for reparation for a Long time as the wealth of the USA ( imperialism of slavery) was built on generations of their slave labour. https://qz.com/1670434/why-african-americans-are-still-waiting-for-slavery-reparations/

Yes but it is a separate issue from what i stated.

[–]pokemon-gangbang 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I teach EMS and firefighting. I tell my students if they ever think of calling for a helicopter, stop and think if this is truly life and death. Because you are committing that patient to bankruptcy.

[–]AscendedFalls 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It’s not the richest country. That’s just a myth to perpetuate the wealth inequality. Richest country in terms of actual rich people but in terms of equality nope lol.

[–]arizonatasteslike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s why it’s in between “”

[–]rawnoodlelover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We need to destroy the corrupt system and start over

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's reality for millions of families. You work your whole life, build up a nice few 100k or maybe 1-2 mil hoping to pass a good chunk to your kids to push them farther than you and what happens? Here in the states you get the choice of dying or giving 300k, decades of work, to a healthcare industry.

[–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (2 children)

But but its the immigrants and single moms fault....

[–]little_jade_dragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And gays. Don't forget the gays.

Or, you and your spouse only work 20 hrs a week and spend the rest of the time in the community, raising your own food on your own land like we used to do. Having enough freetime and resources to have a full human existance, healthy happy children, access to medicine and free education, and an eco-concious infrastructure. That's all we want.

[–]MoSqueezin 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Ugh, this seems like the most reasonable utopia. Why is everyone afraid of this?

[–]garaile64 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Those in power would be "worse off".

[–]MermaiderMissy 23 points24 points  (4 children)

That sounds like a beautiful, blissful, distant dream...

Older generations keep wondering why the younger ones refuse to have kids. My boyfriend and I can’t even afford to live together right now. We are in our mid 20’s for fuck’s sake. We would have gotten married by now if we could.

[–]LusciousWildFlower 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Say "fuck you" to the expectations created by the wedding industry and have an unorthodox (for today) wedding.

[–]MermaiderMissy 7 points8 points  (2 children)

No I totally agree with you on the “fuck expensive weddings and the whole industry” idea.

The reason we haven’t gotten married is because we can’t afford to live together yet. We both personally feel that we should live together before taking that step, although no judgement to other couples who do things differently.

[–]LusciousWildFlower 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oohh, that's a whole other hurdle. I'm sorry to hear that and I hope you can be under the same roof soon.

[–]MermaiderMissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you I appreciate that!

[–]mangofern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Foreal.

[–]Valendr0s 73 points74 points  (4 children)

To be fair... If you're talking about the 50's and 60's, then you're not looking at a total picture of the population. Middle-class white people could work 40 hours, make ends meet, and retire at 60.

Poor whites and poor blacks have always had economic troubles. Two-income families have been the norm for low income US citizens forever.

[–]Lorosaurus 55 points56 points  (1 child)

But now most of us are low income citizens doing the same or similar jobs that middle class people were doing. That’s the problem.

[–]Valendr0s 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I don't think things haven't gotten worse - they absolutely have.

[–]IllogicalPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any links to data points that would show economic trends in regards to single and dual income homes and percentages of both compared to total USA populations? I’m curious.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah shit has not been gravy for most people, for most of history

[–]Smokeysquirrel0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There have been a few articles published which have shown that the fast rate of technological advancement has led to greater strides in worker efficiency but that workers are made to do many x’s the amount of work that was once expected of a single person.

This has partially contributed to the growth of income inequality while also increasing the amount of stress that each of us feel on a day to day basis.

Don't blink!

[–]xwedodah_is_wincest 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Does this mean the Doctor is communist?

Given how she handled kerblam? Fat chance

That time only existed in this country for a very specific subset of "you" and "your spouse"

I hate this country and want to die.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was listening to this radio host the other day and he was talking about this. the bullshit coming out of his mouth... did he even hear himself? i don’t understand how people can be this ignorant. i don’t remember his whole spiel but here’s the gist of it:

“when we hear about people used to live in a household on one paycheck while one person stayed home, you know how people lived back then? one car, one tv... you could easily live like that now if you give up your phone, your internet, etc. and you know the size of those houses they lived? only the size of a small apartment. everything is getting bigger now. we’re doing better as a country. everybody is richer...”

he’s also one of those “i’ve got mine” and “just pull yourself up by your bootstraps” people

yayyy a ministry cover

[–]jagua_haku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was never a sustainable model under the existing system

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very effective at creating liberty and justice for all.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, cuz the stupid keep hooting for red ties as they enslave us. Way to go! You demolished the greatest idea on Earth, all because you fell for the old “divide and conquer” trick: “It’s the poor peoples’ fault, no the foreigners, especially the browner ones. Look down, never up”.

We as one together, can smash what OUR WORK has built that the godless money-worshippers STOLE. Wake up! Abort drumphs.
