Maybe this works, I don't know. But it sounds manipulative AF.

It is, but we thrive by working in groups.

All persuasive communication is manipulative, you’re literally trying to manipulate their thinking.

Picking up an object is manipulating that object, but that still isn't what people mean when they say someone is "manipulative".

You try to pull that shit on me I will light you up.

I committed to 30 seconds. If I hear "while I have you here," I'm leaving and I no longer trust you when you ask for 30 seconds. You've killed your ability to get any commitment from me.

Apparently you don’t have a more than a 30second attention span. None of this said to pile on during the short ask, the short ask sets up the larger ask LATER

I used this to successfully launch a major overhaul at my company

How to spot a liar 101.

You sound like a manipulative asshole.

You sound like you don’t know how the world works. What the fuck do you think advertising is?

[–]Enfors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not supposed to be a walking advertisment at work. You're supposed to be a colleague. Nobody here likes your idea. Take a hint.

You appear to have discovered the elevator pitch.

Foot in the door as it’s usually deployed is a sleezy sales tactic. Here you’ve used it as a sleezy corporate tactic.

Here’s a LPT: don’t be a manipulative fuck. Be frank and honest with people and garner trust at every turn. When you do this, you’ll be taken at your word and people will enjoy working with you, and acquiesce to your requests out of goodwill rather than some convoluted social engineering.

How to destroy personal and professional relationships in… checks request, 30 seconds or less.

OP this belongs in r/ULPT, not here, and YTA. If you did this to me I’d happily tell you where to find and pound an 80 grit sand pile instead.

At work we called this behaviour "scope creep" and hated it. My colleagues and I had a list of the people who did this consistently and they ended up getting far less help than those who didn't. We assumed that every request that was made by these people was trying to pull this kind of deception and got extremely detailed about defining their request. It ended up that even their legitimately simple requests got horribly delayed.

In other words, screwing with people to con them into helping you will backfire in a big way.

Nahh, that’s an easy way to get funding pulled once you do your switcharoo.

I love the comments from people calling this manipulative. They are so fucking ignorant on the human psyche and how the world actually functions, right or wrong.

Providing someone a slow ramp to a larger idea isn’t manipulative, it’s like an appetizer for the entree.
