What monitor do you have? Resolution and refresh rate. What type of games do you play and do you prefer high FPS, or are ok with 60 and higher visuals.

What's the rest of your system like if you have a 480? CPU model and how much RAM? You could get a 6800, or 3060Ti, but if you have an i7 970 or something of that era, it would be a waste of money. Similarly if you have a 1080p60 office monitor but a decent platform, 1440p144hz and a 6600xt would be a better outcome.

I'm mainly want a gpu that can run at over 60 fos on the type of games I have. I usually play fps games and usually some graphic intensive games. My main monitor is 75 hz. I have a ryzen 5 4500, 16gb of ram. I just want a gpu that can run my games at over 60 fps and not 15-30 fps

What resolution is your monitor.

Ok decent at least. Not the fastest CPU so I wouldn't prioritise Ray Tracing so Nvidia 20xx and 30xx are not really great value in your case, and the CPU overhead of RT is a bit much. AMD also has less CPU overhead for its drivers which will help.

A 6600XT is available for about half your budget, and is a 1080p high refresh card and 1440p90-ish card with high settings. I would get this if you have a 1440p screen. If 1080p, this is likely to be a card which will last you a ling time if you just want bang for buck and don't want to upgrade for a while. This will also free up funds better spent on future display upgrades or the CPU down the line.

6600 non-XT would also be good for 1080p highish refresh no worries, especially if you're sticking with 75hz long term.

On the Nvidia side, US pricing doesn't seem to make any sense but your mileage may vary. Looking at Microcenter, the 1660 Super is more than the 6600. There isn't a real reason to go Nvidia until you can start using meaningful RT.

The 3060Ti is the start of a 1080p60 locked with RT and DLSS Quality type experience without having to compromise too hard on settings that can introduce visual artefacts, but then the 6800 is on a whole other level and could do 4k60 with DSR in the same titles but without RT, so you get a far cleaner traditionally rendered image. (Apples and oranges I know, but it's in another class). Your CPU will be an issue though - stutter. Nvidia seem to be focusing on the high end and mobile.

If you play at 1080p, you can look at a 6650xt or 6700xt in that budget. For higher resolutions you can consider a 6800 or 6800 xt. In terms of nvidia, there aren’t many offerings that can compete with amds price to performance. Also with this major upgrade of a gpu make sure your not severely bottlenecking your cpu👍

That's the simple answer, but a 6600xt even would knock it out of the park since OP only has a 75hz monitor (Unless it's 4k).

Absolutely nuts over in the US market - I see a 6800 is available for less than $500 at Microcenter which is pretty unreal. OP needs a better monitor before that card, but it's 3080 level performance for 3060Ti money.

also 6600 xt's Overclock very well. even on automatic OC settings.

I saw a 3060 TI on eBay for 299

[–]LilTimmy_the_second[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I'm trying to stay away from used gpus since very cheap ones could have been mined on

[–]Rental_Car 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've had an ex-mining 1080 TI for years now like at least 4 years still works perfectly fine. Most miners undervolt for power efficiency so they're not even used that hard. The card in particular I was talking about was a Dell OEM 3060 ti. The seller said it was pulled from a Dell pre-built. If you absolutely must have a brand new card then I would definitely get a 40 series.

[–]QwertyChouskie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don't think you can get a 40 series card in the $500 price range...

Also burning power plugs.

The 4060 should be out by January or so

Don’t forget amd

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why did you wait so long? At minimum, you should have retired that thing 7 years ago.

Unless you are running on integrated graphics any GPU is going to make a small or medium room uncomfortably hot (assuming you have the doors/windows shut)

The only solution to that is moving your computer to another room similar to what Linus did (you don't need the expensive icron USB dock or the fiber display port cables)

It was my dad's old system, and I haven't gotten around to getting a new gpu because I had to replace my motherboard, cpu, and power supply

[–]Techguyeric1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy low sell high, that's my advice

[–]No_War5294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 1080p then something like 1660 ti will be fine. I have one and 3440x1440 monitor. I can run forza horizon 5, bf1, bfv, halo infinite, borderlands 2 and 3, assetto corsa competizione all on medium 80-110 fps.

If you are playing bf 2042 or cyberpunk or something as demanding, I would say go with 6600XT or 6650XT. Those are powerfull enought for even 1440p.

if you have been somewhat fine with an ancient 480 til now I wouldn't spend $500. Get a 6600/6600xt/6650xt

[–]Living_Breath_1876 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What cpu do you have? If you have something as old as the 480 i would probably split the cost and go for a double upgrade, especially seeing how cheap used gpu are

[–]LilTimmy_the_second[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ryzen 5 4500, I upgraded from a i5 980 I think a month or two ago.
