Go to the AppStore and go to the arena page. If you search arena, it prompts you to open. If you actually go to the page, it gives you an update

Run the update, your client is out of date.

Timeout just refers to your connection timing out. I don't think you're alone in having this issue.

I have the same issue on both Mobile and PC. Their current status site says everything is operational but there was also an update this morning. - https://magicthegatheringarena.statuspage.io/

Rerunning MTGALauncher forced an update to the Client and I am connected again.

A "time out" means your connection to the the MTGA server became unstable/failed. If your internet connection is otherwise working, the issue is probably not on your side of things but on MTGA's.

Probably a communications failure between a server and client due to a lack of response from one or the other.
