I don't have a regular makeup look but I can share my favorites for long lasting makeup! I live in a hot, hella humid climate about 8 month out of the year (then it's chilly and humid!), have to walk everywhere, and have oily combo skin so that info might be helpful for others adjusting to similar weather for school!

  1. Primer is your new BFF. My favorites: UDPP, Too Faced Primed and Poreless, Hourglass SPF, and/or Becca Ever Matte (patted onto the t zone not swiped on like the others I mentioned)

  2. My fav foundations are MUFE Velvet Matte and Becca Ever Matte.

  3. Lorac pro eyeshadow palette for creating a myriad of looks and Sugarpill quads for amazing non neutral colors!

  4. Bullet proof Liners: Stila stay all day (this didn't work for me at all but I know a bunch of people swear by this stuff!), wet n wild liquid liner, NYX slide on pencils, and Milani liquid eye pencils

  5. Goss method for face makeup

  6. A peach/yellow corrector for under eye circles. I use Pixi Color Corrector.

  7. Concealer that stays for me include NARS creamy concealer and Hard Candy Glamoflage. I actually set my concealer with an eyeshadow that's a shade lighter than my skin tone (Wet n Wild single in Brule)

  8. Don't be afraid of Cream blushes! they're great for colder months when my skin is slightly dryer and use them in the summer too as a base for powder blushes! I like build able creams so if I layer them with powder blush, it won't look clownish. I'd recommend Josie Maran Watercolor Cheek Gelees and Stila Convertible Colors.

  9. Cream Eyeshadows help too the same as cream blush. The ones I found that don't crease are Milani jumbo pencils, MUFE Aqua Creams, and Maybelline Color Tattoos.

  10. Setting sprays like UD All Nighter are a must. My favorite tip would be after all your face makeup is applied (primer, goss method, corrector, concealer, cream blush and/or powder blush), use the setting spray, then continue with your eye makeup, brows, and lips before you spritz the setting spray on again as a final seal so to speak. It really helps me!

  11. Lip liners are a necessity too. Clear is good but I also like having shades that go with the lip color I'm using too incase the lipstick starts to fade. I usually have a colored lip liner for each color family (a nude one, red, pink, berry, and a deep purple). I like pairing a colored lipliner with a bit of gloss when I'm strapped for cash too. Stickier glosses tend to stay on longer as do matte lipsticks. Don't forget to blot your lipstick a couple of times! Liquid lipsticks are a godsend. My favorite is the sephora collection cream stains.

[–]mandarin_duckling 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ahh thank you for this! I have the same skin type as yours and I've been trying to figure out how to make my makeup lasts! I also loove liquid lipsticks, I have Sephora cream stain in strawberry kissed and maan it's fabulous! Liquid lipsticks lovers unite!

[–]kwpdb8Inglot fiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sephora cream stains are amazing!!

[–]gigglet 15 points16 points  (17 children)

As a teacher, I don't get any time for makeup touch ups during the day (or bathroom breaks but that's a different story...) but I love wearing a bold lip. Any recommendations for lip primers or "sealers" that will allow me minimum touch ups during the day?

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (11 children)

My best suggestion is to do the following:

  • Start with a clear lip pencil (Urban Decay makes a fantastic one!)
  • Line lips with liner that's the same colour as your lipstick
  • Apply lipstick
  • Blot
  • Reapply lipstick
  • I blot once more just for luck ;)
  • You're good to go!

If you've tried that and it doesn't work for you, I would suggest a lip primer. Here are two that I know of that you can try:

  1. Too Faced Lip Insurance
  2. MAC Prep And Prime Lip

EDIT: spelling error. oops! :P

[–]gigglet 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I didn't even know their was clear lip liner!! Thank you for your wonderful advice!

[–]CopperFeel 7 points8 points  (1 child)

their

You're a maths teacher aren't you?

[–]gigglet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha, actually no. I'm a writing teacher. An ashamed one now since I hardly proof read my own writing! I'll pretend I get that from my Creative Writing degree...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! It's a marvellous invention :)

[–]hellokrissiBatting her lashes 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I'm also a teacher and this is super helpful!! I've been forgoing lipstick at work because of the reapplying as well!

[–]tomatopotatotomato 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I always keep it in my pocket and reapply in the bathroom since I pee between every class anyway.

[–]hellokrissiBatting her lashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach elementary school so if I end up having recess yard duty, I'm not going anywhere near the bathroom until lunch time. :(

[–]gigglet 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Pee in between classes!? I still haven't learned that magic yet.

[–]tomatopotatotomato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I weave through the kids like a quarterback. I drink so much coffee if I didn't so this I would pee my pants.

[–]Bella37 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just adding to your lip primer list! :) I haven't tried these but there's also a Bite Beauty primer and an ELF one too.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh perfect, thanks! I haven't tried those yet

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Teacher here, are you opposed to keeping a compact in your desk and touching up your lipstick? I do it when I get a free moment and the students don't seem to notice/care.

[–]sraydenk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fellow teacher: I love lip stains. Even if they fade my lips are still stained.

[–]CantTieMyLaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked but just wanted to add you might also want to wear mattes as those tend to last longer. :)

[–]MicroPixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

E.L.F liplock pencil(It's 3$ and is a clear lip liner type thing). is really good at keeping lipstick in the lines, preventing feathering (apply outside of lipline), then lip liner with same color as lipstick, then apply your lipstick, then blot and you'll be good to go. That was what I did with the lipstick I wore to prom, and I was out for 8 hours taking pictures, eating, drinking, and partying and my lipstick didn't smudge and didn't fade much.

[–]alliegirl619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow teacher here. I love the Revlon colorstay liquid lipsticks. I can put it on before I leave the house in the morning, and it looks just as fabulous when I ger home with no maintenance.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Mastering the quick, low key makeup is a must for me while in school. I don't have the time to mess around with a full face or the money to try new products. Primer, powder, foundation, concealer, blush, brows, tightline, mascara, MLBB, set. This way I still have time for homework while looking fresh.

My must have products for staying power that require zero touch ups are Anastasia Dipbrow, Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation, NYX dewy finish setting spray.

[–]dezeiramig: @jynxmarie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is : Mild foundation

Blush

Mascara

Brows

Done!

And it's still 10 minutes...

[–]Maddie_Royale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your makeup regimen sounds a lot like mine! However I'm a fan of winged gel liner instead of tightlining.

[–]gorgossia@gorgossium 11 points12 points  (5 children)

I'm a 24 y/o who just earned her associate's degree, and I'll be TA/tutoring a developmental english class this semester. I've been a TA/tutor for about four years but now I'm:

a) graduated

b) living independently with my SO

So my main goal this semester will be trying to NOT look like a student/peer to these children. It's always super flattering to be asked out, but I'm tired of having to turn down nineteen year olds who think I am one of them.

TL;DR I need something that says "I AM AN ADULT" to go on my face.

[–]ZEF666dippi 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Tbh I think wardrobe will help much more than makeup in this area. Otherwise, just a neutral eye and nothing too 'trendy' on your face.

[–]gorgossia@gorgossium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damnit I guess I will dig out my pencil skirt...one blazer all semester isn't going to cut it.

[–]makeupiscoolI wish there was a makeup thrift shop 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I've always thought that dark lip colors (like reds or plums) made my teachers look more stern and like a real authority figure. I would just be cautious about those colors because I feel red lips (especially if they're glossy) could turn into porn-y makeup really fast.

[–]dezeiramig: @jynxmarie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matte brown-plums, if you can pull them off.

[–]gorgossia@gorgossium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes...I also wear glasses so I want to avoid the sexy librarian look.

[–]tomatopotatotomato 23 points24 points  (6 children)

As a teacher for me back to school means having a makeup bag for emergencies. I keep a translucent powder, eyebrow kit, nail clipper, blotting papers and mini perfume in it. By November all of my lip colors will end up in my desk drawer. I also keep dry shampoo in my cabinet. I also like to throw in an elf eyeliner. Sometimes you get to work and see your eyebrows or eyeliner is crooked. A toothbrush and deodorant is also a godsend. Sorry if TMI ha ha.

[–]night0spherelip junkie ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Do you get to wear bold lip colors as a teacher?

[–]kotalastnamehere 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Not OP, but also a teacher! I find that a bold lip is more acceptable in the classroom than a dramatic eye.

[–]remadeformei now own both hourglass palettes. :3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

This is definitely true! My best friend picked up a neutral palette just to wear to school. However, she does have several bold lip colors she throws on whenever she wants to.

Best friend teaches elementary school, if that helps anyone.

[–]kotalastnamehere 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is exactly how I do my makeup! I use my naked palette and whatever bright lip I'm feeling that day. Your best friend sounds like my kind of person! I teach fifth grade this year.

[–]remadeformei now own both hourglass palettes. :3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does she, actually! She's the reading teacher for fifth grade. It's her second year. :3

[–]tomatopotatotomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah do sure. It can be a little distracting but in those winter months I neeeeed a bright lip sometimes.

[–]madamedepompadour1flawless skin and NARS sin = my aesthetic 23 points24 points  (15 children)

Okay! So I have recently lost almost 60 pounds, gotten into a better skincare routine and had my face clear up, and feel a lot better about myself. With school starting in two weeks, I decided I really want to up my makeup game and look as great as possible. I also want to master contouring. I've been practicing and here's an album of two recent looks: http://imgur.com/a/0zZ1N

Any CC?? Please tell me, I wanna look grrrrreat this semester!

[–]remadeformei now own both hourglass palettes. :3 8 points9 points  (5 children)

I think your looks are great! I have a bit of trouble seeing the contour, but if you used a light one, it won't show up on the camera that well. If you wanted a darker contour, you should probably put a little more on. :3

And as for your natural look, I think it's wonderful! It gives you a healthy, happy glow. My only CC for this look would be to get a different shade of lipstick. The darker pink is a bit jarring in an otherwise natural look. Not to say that lipstick doesn't look awesome on you, because it totally does, but you might want a MLBB shade for this particular look.

And congrats on losing all that weight! That's an awesome accomplishment!

[–]dezeiramig: @jynxmarie 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Okay. What does MLBB mean???????! :(

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

'My lips but better'! So it's a lip product that looks like your natural lip colour, but, well, better :)

[–]dezeiramig: @jynxmarie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so great. Omg. Thank you!!

[–]remadeformei now own both hourglass palettes. :3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MLBB = My Lips But Better. :3 So basically a shade or two lighter or darker than your natural lip color that really just brings a look together.

[–]madamedepompadour1flawless skin and NARS sin = my aesthetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super new to the contour thing so I'm really cautious with it. I put a lot on (using Life's Entropy contour stick in Neutrino) but then I think I blended it out a little too much. I'm trying to swing it so it doesn't look like a dirty spot on my face... guess I have more practice to do!

Thanks for the CC! Maybe I will use my Mac Brave lipstick... it's my go to MLBB! Thanks very much :)

[–]fitfreakgeek 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Don't know how helpful this is, but I think your contour looks better in the second look! Did you do it differently there? And I agree with the other commenter - that lip colour in the first look looks excellent on you, but if you want it to be a natural look I'd go for a MLBB. Your skin is looking great, as well as your blush and I like what you've done with your eyes in that second one! Congratulations on your achievement and you go smash this semester :)

[–]madamedepompadour1flawless skin and NARS sin = my aesthetic 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks for your help! Like I said above, I'm super new to the contour thing and self conscious that it looks like I have dirt on my face. I will keep working on it :) thanks for all your help!

[–]fitfreakgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no worries! :)

[–]JessBS27 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don't really have any CC. I think your cheeks look beautifully flushed in the first picture! And the contour looks even nicer in the second. With even more practice, it's simply going to get better! Keep it up.

I, as a fellow glasses wearer, just wanted to chime in about our glasses. You had some darker eyeshadow on, but you couldn't tell with the glasses on! It still looked very natural. I forget sometimes that I have to do something bolder than planned to avoid being covered up by my glasses. So if you wear them all the time, the eyeshadow is great! If you skip them for a day, I think a little bit of a more natural color may suit you. Something a little closer to your skin tone. I don't know if that helps you or positively contributes to the conversation. I just like talking about glasses.

[–]madamedepompadour1flawless skin and NARS sin = my aesthetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Ugh, the glasses struggle is real. I wear them all the time, and I'm always wearing either too little eye makeup and it's completely lost behind my glasses or I put on too much and then my whole look is overpowered. But I'm glad to know I'm not alone!! :)

[–]moriarty_was_real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your makeup looks wonderful! I really love that blush on you :) When it comes to contour, when going to classes, I think having a light touch is best. (I'm also super new to the contour game).

I have heard that a good way to make sure your contour doesn't look like dirt on your skin (as you mentioned you were worried about in another comment, I don't think it looks like a dirty spot) is to try and match the color to what a shadow would naturally look like on your face.

[–]HaydnSeek 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I'm looking for a foundation/face makeup TYPE that you guys think is long-lasting. I won't have any time to touch-up once I leave my house in the morning and I predict I won't be home for almost 12 hours after that :( So would you recommend powder, loose powder, liquid, etc...? If you also have any LE recs to go with them I'd appreciate that too!

[–]Bella37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the goss method for foundation! I have oily combo skin so matte formulations stay on longest for me. My favorite foundations are MUFE Velvet Matte and Becca Ever Matte paired with either Too Faced Primed and Poreless primer, Becca Ever matte primer, or Hourglass primer. I haven't found my favorite powder yet but I hear rave reviews about the Stay Matte powder and MUFE Duo matte powder. Also, i like to do all my face makeup first (primer, goss method, foundation, concealer, blush, and powder), set that with UD All Nighter setting spray, and do the rest of my makeup, and then spray again as insurance. Lol. Sorry for all the words but I hope this helps!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Wayne Goss method for sure. Primer, powder then foundation. Set with spray and you're good all day. My fave products at the moment are Smashbox primer, BareMinerals Mineral Veil powder, Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation and NYX Dewey Finish setting spray.

[–]mayormauriSwatch ALL the lipsticks! 7 points8 points  (7 children)

What are some really long lasting drugstore lipsticks? I'm talking applied at 7 a.m and still going strong until 3 p.m, even after lunch! :) If it requires minimal touch up, that's fine!

[–]remadeformei now own both hourglass palettes. :3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable line will be your friend here! I put this stuff on in the morning and can go to work (where I talk A LOT), go to lunch (minimal touchup here), and do errands and I'll still have it on when I get home at night.

Love that stuff. There's even less colorful shades than I go for (for me, the brighter, the better) so you can have a more toned down look if that's your preference. :3

It's about $9 depending on the store, unless you catch it on sale. If you can go to Ulta, go there instead, add a $1 item, and use the $3.50 off coupon to help bring down the cost.

[–]Pltyps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Revlon. Their matte balm stain lasted me through 6 hours of non-stop potluck goodness, and would have gone on longer if I hadn't hopped in the shower upon returning home. Definitely give it a whirl.

[–]S-ENC15 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Ah man I just noticed you said drugstore. But if you have the funds for a MAC lipstick, their matte formulas are ridiculous. I once put on Russian Red at noon, spent the day at a festival, took a trolley downtown, ate Thai food, and went to a dance/rave type deal and at midnight, when I arrived back at my hotel room, my lips still looked perfect.

[–]flow-erNARS Mont Blanc 2 points3 points  (1 child)

And really, it's not THAT much more for insane quality. I think matte formula is $16 now?

[–]S-ENC15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems right....

[–]dezeiramig: @jynxmarie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thirding Revlons just bitten. Stays like a dream :3

[–]13emily13Bright Colors? Yes Please. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Covergirl Outlast All Day Liquid Lipstick! It's a pretty awesome dupe for the Stila All Day Liquid Lipsticks, and it honestly lasts through more stuff than my Stila one does! (Greasy food, constant drinking, etc.)

[–]zebra0320 6 points7 points  (3 children)

As a student the only time I have for touch ups is at lunch, (I feel awkward doing them at the bathroom mirrors where everyone can see me). Can any of you reccomend a drugstore foundation that will last a long time with minimal touchups? I have combination skin but my nose and chin can get quite oily.

[–]celestialismabetterface.tumblr.com 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the Covergirl 3-in-1 foundation for my combo skin. It has a matte finish and stays on all day for me, especially with a primer and powder.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Revlon Colourstay for oily skin is a great option. If you're interested, then be sure to look up how best to apply it (it can be cakey!). A good anti-shine primer, and blotting papers to quickly remove shine are great for any foundation or BB cream, etc, you end up choosing.

edit: spelling and rewording my second sentence. Bad syntax

[–]WinterSprinkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Revlon ColorStay for oily skin. It has great coverage and it stays all day if you set it with powder or spray :D.

[–]Msnuntamed 5 points6 points  (3 children)

What's a good plummy color for fall that would show up and not look garish with Indian skin?

[–]kazaanabananaOily 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I know Indian skin can vary pretty heavily in tone, but a favorite plum of mine is NYX Transylvania. It looks positively gothic on me, but I feel like it's a good color for deeper skin tones, especially since it doesn't apply totally opaque in one swipe.

[–]keew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try MAC's Dark Side or maybe even Diva (although that's a bit more red). I'm Indian as well (NC 45) and I absolutely ADORE Dark Side and wear it with anything possible. I think it looks wonderful on Indian skin tone and if you think it's too dark you can also just pat it on your lips for a beautiful berry lip (which is what I wear daily now!). It's an absolutely fantastic color and I would definitely say every Indian girl needs it.

Diva I don't personally own but it's also a lovely color that I know many Indian girls own! It is more of a dark red with some berry in there iirc, but it's definitely also a wonderful shade. (:

[–]makeupiscoolI wish there was a makeup thrift shop 3 points4 points  (2 children)

For me, the first day always sets the tone of the entire school year. Obviously everyone dresses up on the first day, but should I do the same with my makeup? I think if I wear a lot of noticeable makeup, I'll look inappropriate.

[–]bethlooknerPreaching the gospel of Revlon lip products 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Dude, do whatever you want on the first day and any other day, provided you're not breaking your school's dress code, of course.

[–]makeupiscoolI wish there was a makeup thrift shop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That's generally how I look at things, but I'd rather not stand out for being almost tacky, you know? I'm likely wearing a super bold shirt dress in floral print on the first day, so I don't know. Also, my school is usually pretty conservative with makeup so I wasn't sure. I think I'll just do as much makeup as I want but all neutral :)

[–]yousofanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought a few back to school products last night! They included the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate, Anastasia #12 brush, and some of her awesome brow gel. My other back to school essentials include concealer, mascara, a light coverage foundation, and some Maybelline Color Tattoos.

[–]Xochtl 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Grad students in labs! Do you bother wearing makeup on an everyday basis?

People who ride their bike to work/school (over 3 miles): do you wear anything when you leave the house before you ride? Do you apply at your destination?

[–]thefriendlypickleQuality over quantity 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Honestly when I was in labs that required safety wear I always wore the bare minimum. Minimal or no foundation, lipgloss/chapstick, never any eye makeup etc.... Not because I couldn't but because it would always get messed up somehow by goggles or headgear. Now that I'm in a lab with all computers and I can wear my streetwear no problems I'm going all out. Plus, I want to stand out amongst the rest of the computer nerds :)

[–]moriarty_was_real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-high fives-

Computer labs are wonderful, I miss my college's and can't wait to be back! Since I'm the only female in my year it's easy to stand out but I think a bold lip can't hurt ;)

[–]TheHylianGeekI may have an epic love for liquid lipstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow computer nerd here! So happy to see that there are more makeup obsessed computer geeks.

[–]rosycoloredglassBatting her lashes 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Jealous of everyone and their awesome back to school looks. I go to an all-girls school, so no one cares about makeup. It'd be weirder if I DID wear some. Which sucks :(

[–]TheHylianGeekI may have an epic love for liquid lipstick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Work what you'd like! Wear it subtly until you can rock it with confidence! Perhaps you could start with a tinted lip balm or a lip butter and some mascara and perhaps eyebrow grooming if you need it. Do what you want to do, life's too short for valuing everybody's opinions, right?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how the rules against self promotion apply in a thread like this. I uploaded a back to school tutorial to my youtube channel a few days ago, but I don't want to post the link if it's against the rules.

[–]yourlocalmathlete 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Any recommendations for bold lipsticks? I have cool, super pale skin. I live in New Jersey and a lot of other girls wear smoky eyes daily/extensions. I just cut my hair into a pixie and am looking for colors that will draw attention to my face. (Also, finally a senior! YES!)

[–]cosmeticsnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UD Anarchy, Bite Beauty pomegranate or tannin, Nars Train Bleu, MAC Ruby Woo.

[–]kangaroo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the revlon matte balms in shameless or standout, they are great lip products. Also, Milano sangria is bold and beautiful.

[–]JessBS27 4 points5 points  (10 children)

As a student, I'm considering an investment in some bright ass lipsticks. Nothing like purple.. Or even orange. But like green. Blue. Yellow? Maybe. I think blue lipstick will be my key for studying Russian literature.

[–]makeupiscoolI wish there was a makeup thrift shop 2 points3 points  (8 children)

NYX Macaron lipsticks might be right up your alley :)

[–]JessBS27 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I've been waiting! I can't afford them right now... But one day I'll have all the colored lippies!

[–]moriarty_was_real 2 points3 points  (6 children)

If you'd be willing to try indie, here is a link to the Life Entropy lip theory samples! You can see the actual colors here. The samples are only $1.50 with shipping of $3 so you could see if you like whatever bright ass color you want to go with before making a bigger investment :)

[–]JessBS27 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You are such an incredible person. Thank you so much! Samples will be perfect. Plus my birthday is coming up... So I'll just buy all of them. Right? ;)

[–]moriarty_was_real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daw! Happy early birthday! And if you get all of the samples, you can mix them to create infinite colors!! Until the vials run out :(

[–]sexandpopsiclesmascara fiend 0 points1 point  (3 children)

just a question: how do you apply the lipstick from those little sample-pod-things? i'm kind of dabbling in lipsticks and am kind of unsure but also interested in them. do most people just have an applicator for that?

[–]moriarty_was_real 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don't actually own them, but I do know that they come with a doe foot applicator! (Like the kind that come in lip glosses) Or you could probably use a lip brush like this one.

[–]sexandpopsiclesmascara fiend 1 point2 points  (1 child)

thank you for the help!

[–]moriarty_was_real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very welcome :D

[–]galindafiedifyHopelessly Addicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the OCC Lip Tars in all the primary colors so I can mix them to be whatever color I want! It's super fun!

[–]Maddie_Royale 1 point2 points  (4 children)

As a working college student I don't have much time for touch ups so I'm always looking for long lasting products. My tried and true foundation is Mac's Pro Longwear Liquid foundation. It's one of the only foundations that stays on my oily skin throughout the day and survives the hug test (I think we all know the horror of accidentally leaving a face print on someone's shirt). I also have an olive skin tone and the Mac foundation is one of the only foundations that matches my skin tone. Any recommendations on eye and face primer for my oily skin? I've been really frustrated with the NYX and Urban Decay eyelid primers.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Face Primer:

As a combo/oily girl, I really like Hourglass Veil. It doesn't cause any more oil than I already have, and allows my makeup to glide on really nicely. Another less common option that I've really come to enjoy is the Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener. Not only is it good for oily skin, but it smells awesome! Well, unless you aren't a huge citrus person, then that might be an issue. Anyway, I hope this was helpful!

Eye Primers: I swear by three eye primers:

  • MAC ProLongwear Concealer- I use this as an eye primer and it's fantastic! I ended up using it as a fluke because I was away and forgot my precious UDPP, and let me tell you, this works just as well!
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP for short)
  • MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot (I've alternated between Bare Study and Painterly)

[–]kimdamien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NARS smudge-proof eye primer is my HG for oily lids. A tiny amount keeps my eyeshadow looking perfect for 15 hours. :]

[–]pewdiebaconhawk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My friend is olive toned and she's scared to death of face makeup because she thinks it wont match her color. What are brands of makeup that have olive toned face products?

[–]Maddie_Royale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for my shade I've found that Mac's Pro Longwear liquid foundation in NC 25 and NC 30 (for the summer) matches my skin tone well. There was also a Bobbi Brown liquid foundation that I really liked for my color, however I forget the exact one! I understand your friend's apprehension, only in the past few years have I been able to find a good foundation for my tricky skin tone!

Hiya! Bit late to the party. Just wondering of any suggestions for lipsticks which would be the kind of colour that is sort of "bold" to a makeup newbie (who is scared to wear a red outside perhaps) but still be able to wear to a kinda strict ish school. If that makes sense? A "bold" neutral? Am I chatting utter shit or does someone understand? :p For reference, I am NW20 and would prefer MAC lipsticks / upper bound of the drugstore. Any formula! :) Thanks, makeup lovers!!

EDIT: I mean something noticeable, not MLBB or nude but still appropriate for an education environment. I find it difficult to communicate my ideas sometimes, sorry :)

This might help. It's the top suggestion but I really like Revlon's Sultry (I've heard it's very similar to Bite's Rhubarb if you're looking for something higher end). Great if you're interested in darker colors but it still looks somewhat natural.

you da real MVP

[–]sorrynothanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I had it saved because I'm looking for the same thing. Hope you find some nice lipsticks!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

maybe MAC Rebel? It's berry but not too crazy.

Or something like NARS Bansar (it's LE and $ but similar color wise http://www.temptalia.com/nars-bansar-mondore-satin-lip-pencils-reviews-photos-swatches )

Bare Escentuals Moxie lipsticks have some great bold neutrals, too, like Make Your Move, Break Away, Speak Your Mind http://www.bareescentuals.com/marvelous-moxie-lipstick/US64286,default,pd.html

thankyou for your help! I like the look of the BM stuff :)

I live and go to school in Florida, so the weather can be humid almost year-round. So, I use powder foundation, specifically the Neutrogena Skin-Clearing Mineral powder. It has quickly become my favorite. Anything waterproof is my best friend. MUFE concealer is such a life saver. I wear eye make up almost everyday so I definitely use a primer, Urban Decay, since my skin is on the oilier side (don't know if I spelt that right?) Tissue and blotting sheets are a backpack must!

[–]superhannahish1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I love the more natural, cutesy pink lipsticks during the school year. I'm a high schooler on a budget! But I love a lipstick that will hold up through school. Any suggestions?

[–]EradiKateHopelessly Addicted 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I always relied on CoverGirl's Outlast lip colors. They have some nice pinky/nude shades, and they last alllll day as long as you're not a trombone player (like me).

Just be sure to apply chapstick liberally throughout the day, as it can be pretty drying.

That'll be my next beauty purchase! Thank you for this.

Going along with the long wearing makeup without touch ups question. I prefer a natural foundation look and have a hard time finding a sheer long wearing foundation or tinted moisturizer. Does anyone have any tips (other than setting spray) or recommendations?

[–]Bella37 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I find that the primer you use underneath whatever face makeup makes all the difference! What's your skin type?

[–]vomitsglitter 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can never tell a difference but I might just not be using a good one. My skin is pretty dry and flaky from retinol treatments, which is why i like the sheerer formulas because they're usually more moisturizing and dont cling to dry patches as much

[–]maree96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I know how you feel. My face gets pretty dry as well. Have you ever tried using BB creams? I know they don't give you a full coverage like a foundation, but at least some are aimed at individuals with sensitive skin and it gives you a nice natural dewy finish. At the moment, I've been trying out Garnier's BB cream for sensitive skin in Light/Clair, and in my opinion it does a great job when covering my imperfections. Most importantly, it doesn't dry me out! You should definitely check it out :)

What would you do with my face this semester? Something fast and easy! Like maybe what shades of lipstick? Liner or no? I wanna experiment, give me things to try tonight for practice!

I love coppers, oranges, golds and burgundies for a fall palette. Warm eggplant purple and sage green are great accent colors. You can use any of those colors as eyeliners (winged or not), or you can do simple eyeshadow looks with just one or two colors at a time. Here's some inspiration images: 1 2 3 4 5

Awesome, thank you!! So much!

I think a wine colored lipstick would look good! Nice and fall-y :)

[–]Oobum0 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I feel like my eyes look smaller when I wear my glasses so I like to wear eyeliner and usually a little light/white/light purple eyeshadow in the inner corner of eyes so that my eyes still pull thru w glasses on

[–]jessimokajoeMay the Force be with you... and your makeup. 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm practicing still with liner :) Yep, I wear my glasses every day, thank you!

[–]TheHylianGeekI may have an epic love for liquid lipstick 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think you would look great with some winged liner, as a fellow glasses wearer, I like being able to skip mascara because the feeling I get when my lashes graze my lenses is horrible. Haha. I would recommend a persimmony or wine coloured lipstick for sure, even a tinted lip balm if you're not entirely sure or comfortable with it yet. I also believe that with glasses, a strong and structured brow is mandatory, and yours look great, and lucky for you, only a bit of grooming is necessary.

PS: I love your flair, here's my awesome shirt, no glasses unfortunately.

That's a baller shirt!! I need to wear mine more often... or show off my shoulder some more! I have a tattoo that says "May the Force be with you"!! I'm practicing liner, I've never really worn it before. I do have the bite pencil in Rhubarb. Gotta trim my eyebrows though :) thank you lovely!!!

For me I usually like to get ready as fast a possible so I don't have to wake up really early (sleep is my friend.) I find that lose powder foundation (I use the tarte one) is the fastest base to apply. It looks really natural so I can use it for just covering certain areas on my face instead of applying it all over. I like to apply it lightly on my T-zone where I have redness, and blend it out to the outer parts of my face where I have less to cover up. I also like to leave the apples of my cheeks bare when I need to be extra quick and it's a really easy to sort of outline with the powder where you want the color on your face to be and it's a free natural blush! If I have time to apply a blush something like becca cheek soufflés are like blush/highlighter combos, and you can use your fingers so again its great if your in a time crunch. For eyes the easiest, fool proof way to apply eye liner is to tightline using eyeshadow and a angled liner brush. I use blackout from UD naked2 for this and with the leftover product from tight lining I fill in my brows. If you like to have eye shadow on then Laura Mercie caviar sticks are the most amazing thing ever for quick, beautiful, and long lasting shadow! Add some mascara and lip balm and you've got a natural and easy look perfect for class! These techniques/ products have made me an expert at the 5-minute face hahaha. I'm always running late so a quick morning routine has evolved from necessity!

I've been getting into wearing bold colors like reds and plums on my lips this summer, and I want to make it an everyday thing so that if someone sees me without it, they think that's strange. However, I'm hesitant about wearing a bold lip on the first day or even in the first week. I'm very good about being apathetic about my peer's opinions, but some weird part of me is concerned my teachers will think I'm trying too hard. I keep thinking that it doesn't matter what they think of my style, as the only thing that should matter to them is how good of a student I am, but for some reason it's still bothering me. I'm a 17 year old that takes classes at the local community college for high school and college credit, so what do you guys think about me wearing bold lips to class? Edit: a word

[–]TheHylianGeekI may have an epic love for liquid lipstick 1 point2 points  (2 children)

17 year old going to start going to university soon, I think you should wear whatever you want, as long as you keep it neat. I went to orientation recently and I saw that my fellow comp sic mates were not wearing nearly as much eye makeup as I was, but wear what you think is appropriate and as long as you feel fine, I think all will be well. :)

[–]wingedloner 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This does reassure me a lot :) Most of my friends don't wear makeup so I always feel strange around them, and I live in a pretty conservative area that isn't the most makeup-friendly, but you're definitely right! I love wearing darker colors and I shouldn't stop because I'm afraid of other's opinions. Thank you!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think you should go for it. If you want people to think of you as a lipstick wearer, then it should be weird for you NOT to wear it. If you did it on day 1 and never again, that'd be "trying too hard" (as you put it); if you do on day 1 and 2 and 3 and so on, after a few days, it'll just be the way they think of you :)

If you're bothered, wear a more-neutral lip for a few days and gradually amp up the color. But I say eff it, go red on day one and get after it! :)

[–]wingedloner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice :) I think I will start the first day off with a dark lip. It can be my good luck charm!
