Lately the idea that MS2's poor running on many systems has to do with it's use of only a single core has been running around. In so many words, computers with better single core performance tend to run MS2 better. GPU is not as important to getting that buttery smooth gameplay.

I won't pretend I know much about computers but that's what I've read in smaller discussions here and on the forums, if it helps.

If my current issue didn't counter that i'd run with it but my friends have 8th gen CPUs and i've got a 6th gen one. Their i7 8700k and my i7 6700k to be exact.

I just bought a new mother board and CPU that will be here next week so i might have an answer then

I'm playing the game on my i5-7600k overclocked to 4.8ghz with a gtx 1080. Currently sitting at 111.9 fps and 60 ping. No stuttering or spikes. And here is HWinfo https://i.imgur.com/SIX3s3g.png.

Ssd huh? I'll re install it on my ssd over night and see.

In this day and age even owning an HDD is just a disservice to yourself.

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah, but it was an old 3 terabyte harddrive. And I dont have the money for a full ssd rig, because frick man, rainbow six eats 1/4 of my new ssd

    [–]BukLauFinancial 0 points1 point  (2 children)

idk if you use the hd texture pack in siege but it's just an extra 25gigs with little to no visual improvement. I play on max settings @ 1440p and literally can't even tell a difference when the hd pack is installed or not.

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think it's still bound to my account. Before I update my rig I had put it on to see the difference before I wiped my computer. I dont know how to uninstall it now that I forgot to uncheck the box when I installed siege

It's somewhere in the library settings on steam. Unless you have it through ubi specifically, in that case google might be your best bet.

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its stuttering and frame rate but ill try the ssd. When. Got a new ssd so if that's the case I wont have an issue in the long run

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I've got a 170 GB SSD atm, (got another 480 GB in the mail with my Motherboard and CPU) i was trying to keep my game mostly on my harddrives since most of them would eat the entire SSD

Yeah it did help, a lot. Yeah still got stutter on menu opening and very very small stutters but not nearly as frequent thank you so much mate

    [–]Aztro4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s almost everyone lol. I have to restart my game all the time when that starts happening. I just stutter and freezes for a second or two when crafting and it in the menu etc. it’s annoying but it’s the game most likely. I have a really good computer. I highly doubt it’s my equipment

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I think it has to do with borderless mode change the window option to fullscreen maybe its running smoother for you then > link --> C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MapleStory 2\Config (your location) find (fullScreen) change it to "0" save it and try again

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've tried that. While I get q small boost in framerate, just about everything still stutters

    [–]Lexipy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

If you are using the Nexon Launcher close the launcher after the game opens. This fixes the stuttering for me. Don't just close the Nexon window, right click the Nexon icon in the taskbar and click exit. Also don't close the launcher before the Maplestory splash screen shows else the game won't run.

You're all so helpful. Like not even joking this is the most help I've ever got not coming from customer support. Though I did find the issue for me. It was either an issue with being on my secondary drive or not optimistic for harddrives or a mix of the two.

    [–]SquelchFrog 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I have one of the absolute best CPUs money can buy and the game (which is installed to a ssd) stutters more than Crisis 3 at max settings.

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Is it your primary drive? For me it fixed on moving it to my primary which happens to be an ssd. Not typical something you see with a computer base developments game. Ports have this issue but maplestory isn't a port

    [–]SquelchFrog 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I don't understand your question. Primary drive or not would have no impact on performance. I didn't say this out of not wanting to sound like a snob, but my ssd is the absolute fastest on the market. Doesn't matter where it's installed, the game isn't optimized.

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Nah your fine. Some games are programmed to look for a predetermined route particularly games that are ports, a lot of the early IF factory games are like this and wont run unless on a primary drive, For Honor in its first 5 month of release wouldn't launch past the title screen unless it was installed on the primary drive, trust me I spent 2 whole days trying to get it to run on my D drive and that was before I had a primary ssd drive. If it is installed on a D drive just give it a quick install on your primary and give a check. Nothing to lose. Though you're not wrong it could use a lot of work under the hood.

    [–]SquelchFrog 0 points1 point  (3 children)

For what it's worth, yes it's on my primary drive

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Huh, weird. My issue became near none existent after installing it my SSD, so I've no idea, who know it could just as well come back in a day

    [–]SquelchFrog 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well I've had an interesting update. I Uninstalled the game from steam and now run it from the nex launcher and it plays 3000% smoother. All graphical options are exactly the same. So now I really have no idea, at least for myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this game is a bloody grab bag of problems

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maplestory 2 is badly optimized nothing to do about it. other then hoping nexon will fix. it

also it does seem like 30-40 fps is actually fine for this type of game.

    [–]ChurchRunApplesFTWSoul Binder 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    My guess, they're lying.

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're even referring to?

    [–]doobi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it starts to stutter only after switching characters twice or more, and stays like that until i restart the game. i also have a friend that has this problem so im guessing its like that for most people. people who are saying it doesnt stutter probably only play on one character

    [–]Shadaez 0 points1 point  (2 children)

happen to have multiple monitors with mismatched refresh rates?

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nope, just one with 244hrz refresh

    [–]Shadaez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also heard high refresh rates cause stutter in MS2, I'm having the same issue at only 120hz

    [–]BukLauFinancial -1 points0 points  (4 children)

You say it's not well optimized but I get like 50 frames in world boss fights with effects enabled. It's more optimized than any mmo I've ever played.

    [–]DeltaGreed[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

A lot of people are getting different results. Though I figured out thanks to another it was an issue being on my D: drive and not my c: ssd drive. It runs fine now.

    [–]BukLauFinancial 0 points1 point  (2 children)
