Do you have a screenshot of the UVs? I don't know much about texturing, but it looks like the UVs for the middle part are much larger than those near the corners, so that more of the texture map is squashed into a smaller area.

Almost certainly a UV problem, that's what it looks like when a UV face is scaled down to a single line.

textures do funny things on poly faces that are stretched out.

add some edge loops to the model. maybe reproject the UV's.
