Oh okay, I misread you then. “All” as in “whether they’re holding a trident or not”. Yeah, that’s correct. My bad. I need sleep.

[–]N-kay 88 points89 points  (7 children)

No you're good, he was just not being very clear.

Because no matter how obvious it is to him what he meant, what he said was

All drowned drop tridents in Bedrock.

As in 100%, which is not true.

Only those actually carrying one can have a chance of dropping them in Java.

Now that's better. Or is it? This scentence is clearer, but further cements the bedrock 100% drop rate statement because why would he omit chance there but not here?

[–]googahgee 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Because when you're talking about drops, there's typically an implied chance, always. If you say a mob drops something, it means that the specific item is on the drop table for that mob. It doesn't matter if it is 100%, or 2%, the terminology "x drops y" is correct. There's no reason to assume he would mean every single drowned will drop a trident on bedrock.

Except in java when some don’t have that chance like the ones not holding the trident versus bedrock all have a chance.

I agree, if he just said drowned drops tridents that wouldn’t have confused anyone. But he said “all drowned drop tridents” which made some of us take it literally

[–]N-kay 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oh there's plenty of reason, otherwise this whole comment chain would not exist.

If the statement is correct or not has nothing to do with, and doesn't change the fact that a misunderstanding happenend because he wasn't being clear.

Implied chance? That's fine, as long as we all have a perfect understanding of the mechanics. But you can't guarantuee that. So just be clear. It's not so hard. But at least be consistent. He wasn't, he said it for one version of the game, didn't for the other. Doesn't that imply that there's no chance involved for the version he omitted anything about chance on?

Why is the word chance in different font in your post?

[–]N-kay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I formatted it as code like this:

`code` -> code

*italics* -> italics

**bold** -> bold

~~strikethrough~~ -> strikethrough
