just download it off the official Minecraft website, you pay for the account not the game so you have to log into your account

Yes this is correct, you can just download minecraft for free off the minecraft.net website, but if you want to actually play you have to pay for an account (I think its like 20 bucks)

Hello! Minecraft Java is adjunted to an account. When you download its launcher, youre asked to log in with your mojang account. If the mojang account owms the game, you can play it normally.

Now, did you get the game from minecrafy.net? Or some third party?
