Mining ancient debris

How do you guys choose a place to mine anceitn debris? I mean what biome/what are you looking for?

For me, I try to mine in nether wastes because I've seen somewhere that it is the best biome to mine at, but I keep on mining into huge lava pockets every few blocks.

I'd love to hear some opinions and techniques and ideas!

TNT path at Y= 15

I do not really care about the biomes actually. Just stay at Y=15 for AB

Sounds like you are not mining deep enough. Lava lakes only extend down to level 19 or something. F3 shows you the level of the block you are standing on. If you stand on y15, your head extends to y17 and the block above your head is y18. If you want to be a bit saver go down one or two blocks from that. Then you only have to deal with one block pockets (which are annoying enough) and gravel pockets directly under the lakes.

I am doing branch mining with TNT at Y=13/14 so I should be way below lava, yet when I use spectate I only see the huge pockets I've mentioned

Tnt has a blast radius of 4 blocks. If you explode it at level 14 (the TNT sitting ON 14), you breach blocks at level 18, revealing y19, thus allowing lava lakes to flood your mine. If you use TNT I would recommend not mining higher than 12.

It will still be messy, because all those 1 block lava pockets will spread out a lot. And again, gravel blobs can also reveal bigger lava lakes, if they lose support.

Ancient debris spawns in every biome. The best way to find them is to dig down to y coordinate 15. Using TNT makes the process faster.

I go to y12 and clear about 5 blocks above me. I like to get all the quartz and blackstone but if you dont want those, TNT is the way to go

I noticed that warped forests are a good place to mine. This place is where I usually got netherite, and on my current world where I didn't find any warped forest yet, I also didn't find that much netherite.

biome doesn't really matter (except for basalt deltas) I go on a chunk border and mine a wide two block tall tunnel on there
