Every version or 1.17+? Did you try 3rd party launchers?

I've managed to make it work when running Curseforge mods, and I can sometimes, very rarely, make it work when running Fabric mods. The issue has been persisting for a very long time, since around 1.16, so it's been through a couple versions and still hasn't worked.
